<p>Apart from his mother, two women helped look after Mickey and the other children: Mary down the road (dubbed "Murder She Wrote" by Mickey's mother) and his mother's best friend and sidekick, Stacey. Stacey minded the kids and his mother minded her, due to her scatty nature and various addictions.</p>

Mickey is the type of person you would cross the road to avoid. He is a selfish, drug-addict thief, only a mother could love. If his mother could love. Older brother, Cillian, has prepared Mickey for life on the streets of Cork City, Ireland, teaching him fine skills such as burglary, shoplifting, how to drink and do drugs. Cillian has also carried the weight heaped-on by their domineering drug-lord mother.
But as Cillian grows, he decides he must escape this toxic existence, which is when Mickey’s life begins to spin out of control.
