Song about Hookworm for quick memorization
Lyrics: I told him wear his shoes because it's good for'm and when he took 'em off he got a hookworm Ancyclostoma duodenale or Necator americanus got anemia, his gut torn
Not intended to replace studying, but a quick memorization tool. Folks can get hookworm from walking barefoot (e.g Cutaneous larva migrans) and get a serpiginous rash on the lower extremities. Can also get microcytic anemia from these parasites sucking blood from your intestinal wall ("gut torn".... lovely). Recommend watching video on youtube for reference, or looking at "First Aid for the USMLE STEP 1" page on hookworms. Hope this helps!

Lyrics: Glargine, Glargine, Glargine, Glargine... Detemir, NPH, Glulisine Glargine, Glargine, Glargine, Glargine... Aspart, Lispro, Long to fast acting
Long acting (no real peak): Glargine, detemir
Intermediate acting (4-10 hr peak): NPH
Short acting (2 -3 hr peak): Regular (not part of the song; need to remember it falls between NPH and glulisine)
Rapid acting (1 hr peak): Glulisine, Aspart, Lispro
This podcast is based off of my video on youtube which has added visuals. I recommend looking at "First Aid for the USMLE STEP 1 " page on insulin preparations (Endocrine chapter) and/or watching the youtube video if you aren't familiar with this information. Not intended to replace independent study, but a boost to memorize info more quickly. Hope this helps!
