O pastor Becker, nascido em Três Coroas, fez seus estudos no Seminário Teológico Luterano do Brasil, em São Leopoldo-RS. Se casou com Traudi e teve duas filhas, Magda e Marta. Passou pelas comunidades de Agudo, Lajeado, Grötzingen (Alemanha), Novo Hamburgo e Santa Cruz do Sul. Também fez um estudo de um ano em Nuremberg, na Alemanha, na área de Aconselhamento. Era também professor de música e dirigente de coral.
