Medicine Meets Social Justice: Police Presence in Schools
Police presence in schools has become a conversation happening all over the country. As medical students, we found it pertinent to highlight this issue in the context of social determinants of health. To gain more perspective, we speak with Joshua King, founder of a non-profit organization in Syracuse, the Academy of Excellence, that supports students academically and socially in innovative ways. In addition, we speak with Dr. Irène Mathieu who is an academic pediatrician, writer, educator, and public health researcher whose work is focused on teaching health equity through medical humanities, community-engaged research, and child health advocacy.
