Meeting Your Inner Wise One Inner Journey
In this week’s blog, I’m sharing with you one of my favourite soulful practices to access the wise one within… Finding and turning to your inner wisdom is a foundational aspect of what I teach. It may surprise you that this aspect of you is easier to tap into than you may have thought. It always blows me away when students share their experiences and how this connection has become an invaluable resource to turn to in their day to day, where they can find answers, comfort and guidance. I invite you to put 30 minutes aside, make yourself comfy, have a journal and pen next to you and press play on the meditation within this week’s blog “You Have All the Wisdom You Need”. A Naturopath's Simple and Easy Tips for Natural Treatment for Hypothyroidism
In honour of International Thyroid Awareness Month, I’ve dedicated this week’s blog to all thing hypothyroid (or Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis) 💙 It’s a condition that affects an extraordinary number of folks - for people with periods, it’s now estimated that 1 in 8 women will have a thyroid problem in their lifetime., Its progression can be slow and subtle, and it’s challenging to get an early diagnosis from conventional medicine. Folks can have elevated thyroid autoantibodies (a sensitive marker for Hashimoto’s) for eight years before thyroid labs are considered “abnormal” or thyroid symptoms obvious enough for a doctor to take note of. I’ve had the same conversation with many clients experiencing fatigue, weight gain, depression, fertility struggles or repeated miscarriages, heavy periods that they were told antidepressants, a diet, the pill or IVF were their options. Understandably, they feel dismissed, judged, ashamed, hopeless or overlooked. This. Needs. To. Change! The earlier this condition is picked up, the better chances of reversing the insidious symptoms associated with it. Because, yes, you can reverse it. And yes, you can do it naturally. Early intervention is KEY. 👉 Link in Bio for the full post where I’ll go into getting a diagnosis (and x2 DIY tests), specific nutrients, therapeutic foods and when to get help. “Why am I tired all the time?”- 11 Possible Causes for Fatigue and Exhaustion
Fatigue is one of the most common presentations I’ve seen in my clinical practice. It’s also a condition that is challenging to get a solid answer for from conventional healthcare. If you’re feeling tired all the time, have no energy, are getting sick regularly and have been told by your doctor that there’s nothing abnormal, this one is for you! Mental Health: Small Changes, Big Shifts
If I were to distil what makes a holistic approach to healthcare successful or not, it would come down to habits. The most perfect treatment plan means nothing if there is no system or structure in which to implement and ground it into the routines of our daily life. A big part of my practice as a naturopath has been to work out the best ways to help folks (and myself) develop habits that support health and to reduce habits that harm our health. Tiny positive shifts and 1% changes really do add in the long term and can catalyse much more significant transformations. I recently read the popular “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, and I was SUPER impressed. James masterfully gathers and distils the science and practice of habit cultivation and behavioural change. He neatly summarises what took me years to figure out plus some. To continue with the theme of mental health this season, I’d love to share some of the key ideas of the book. And share with you some ways you can gently tend to your mental health on the daily and perhaps inspire you to read the book in its entirety. If you’re a healthcare practitioner working in preventative medicine or someone wishing to align your life to healthier habits, it’s well worth the read for you too! Delegation & Embracing Our Limits
In last weeks’ blog, I explored the phenomenon of “generosity burnout” and how training ourselves to be effective givers (not sacrificial givers) allows us to remain buoyed and be able to help others in a meaningful way for the long term. I’ve come to see the “7 Habits of Highly Productive Giving” as a philosophy - but today I wanted to switch gears and get into some of the practicalities. How can we actually lighten our load? And, How can we do less and be just as effective? If you have been following my work, you’d know I’m a fan of simplicity, and it’s something that I’m always endeavouring to create. I would love to share two straightforward tools that I use myself when I’m feeling overwhelmed, and my to-do list is beginning to look rather insane. I’ve taken many a client through the process also, and there is a palpable lightness and relief in the room afterwards. Because they’re too good just to keep to myself, I would love to share them with you today also. To read the blog visit: https://www.clarabailey.com/2020/11/09/delegation/

How to Prevent Emotional Burnout While Still Being Generous
Over the years, I’ve found myself nearing emotional burnout on several occasions. I adore my work and am so grateful that a beautiful community of wellness curious folks have gathererd around my offerings. But last year, with the horrific bushfire season, the pandemic, a full clinical caseload, teaching, transitioning my business entirely online, pregnancy, moving interstate…there were many moving pieces! I’ve spent a couple of seasons doing some deep soul work and rethinking how I structure the way show up for my community with a full heart and deep reserves of energy - and I’ve been feeling so much better. If you’ve been feeling a little crispy around the edges from caregiving, I hope this week's blog and reflections may help give you some ideas of how you can begin to renegotiate this for yourself too. Often we gravitate to the helping professions because we’re naturally wired to be givers. “Helping others” is then profoundly ingrained in our training and in the way we show up for our livelihoods. But what happens when that deep wiring starts pushing you to the edge of burn out? How can you renegotiate the way you show up and serve that allows you to refill your inner wellspring? I’ve spent a couple of seasons doing some deep soul work and rethinking of how I structure the way I show up for my community, and I’ve been feeling so much better. One paper that helped me transform my thinking around boundaries and showing up was “Beat Generosity Burnout” by Adam Grant & Reb Rebel from Wharton University. It’s helped me create a structure that allows me to think about how I can make the most impact with the love and care that I have. If you’ve been feeling a little crispy around the edges from caregiving, I hope this summary and reflections may help give you some ideas of how you can begin to renegotiate this for yourself too. What To Do When Anxiety Floods Us
I’ve had many, many conversations this past year with loved ones, colleagues and clients about how our mental health is being tested like never before. ⠀ ⠀ Us humans don’t do so well with rapid change, social isolation and far-reaching uncertainty all rolled into one. ⠀ ⠀ My husband Orlando is a trauma psychologist on the frontlines, so our household hasn’t been short of stories of just how testing these circumstances have been collectively. ⠀ ⠀ While I’m not a mental health professional, as a naturopath and herbalist, I know how deeply our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health are entwined. We simply cannot separate them! ⠀ ⠀ And today I would love to share with you a holistic model of mental health care that can help simplify the complexity, provide a natural order in what changes and interventions to try and (what I hope) are some soothing and reassuring words that you will come out the other side of this. ⠀ ⠀ Anxiety is a very real physiological experience that can feel scary, exhausting and beyond your control. Remember to start small, seek help and trust that you will find a way. 3 Tweaks For Effortlessly Working With Your Cycle
My journey with the fertility awareness method began at 26, when I wanted a hormone-free way to approach my birth control. An unexpected by-product of carefully noticing my fertile signs each day was that I found a portal of awareness into other areas of my life that were following a cyclical rhythm. I began to see patterns change in my mood, focus, libido and many other elements—the ebb and flow of my being started to form a predictable pattern. These inner observations led me to discover the world of menstruality. As I started deepening into the mental, emotional and spiritual levels of the menstrual cycle, I found great insight and healing awaiting. Using this rhythm has become a way of life and organising principle for everything that I do. Today, I would love to share with you three of my favourite tweaks that can help you begin to anchor yourself in a cyclical way of life. You may like to be an eager beaver, and action, all these suggestions. Or you may wish to pick one and see how you find it for a cycle.
