The role of a teacher leader mentoring a 7th grade science teacher with using technology as a tool to teach her students about habitat loss.
Habitat Loss Mentorship
Middle School Scenario: Mrs. C is a 7th-grade science teacher with a diverse group of students. She is creating a lesson plan around habitat loss in local environments and wants to use technology to help support her diverse students. She is struggling, and as a teacher leader, you are mentoring her thorough using technology to help meet their needs. Podcast Transcript I will mentor Mrs. C by starting the classroom with an open discussion where I ask her students what habitat loss is and then asking questions to see if they understand that they have a role in preserving the habitats around them.  A lot of times we do not help because we do not know that we can.  After the discussion I will have Mrs. C play the video: Habitat Destruction: A lesson for Kids from study.com. This video teaches what habitat destruction is, the effects, and the different causes.  After the video I will have students break up into small groups and discuss the information they learned from the video and come up with a way they can return to their personal environments and start contributing to the preservation. Each small group will present their findings to the class through out the rest of the week. Resources: Habitat Destruction: Lesson for Kids - Video & Lesson Transcript | Study.com Choi, A. (2019).
