One might be hard pressed to find a job more associated with Filipinos than nursing. It's become a sorta stereotype on it's own actually. Thousand upon thousands of hopefuls in the Philippines train to take on the profession and set their sights abroad. Why abroad? Nursing is a very in demand profession but more so in foreign countries. As early as the 1960's the US had started to import Filipino Nurses after a shortage of nurses following WW2- and even earlier at the beginning of their occupation they had them trained in the American curriculum. So for many years now it was a given for Nurses to spread their wings and make the leap to greener pastures. For our newest episode we have Mars Rae who was raised in the states and found Nursing all on her own. She shares her experiences-the long hours, the risks that come along with it-and the ways she has taken the stereotype in stride and made it her own. She shares tales of finding connection with her Filipino side thru old teleseryes and the Pinoy community in California, and of coming home to meet her relatives and adjusting to seeing a land were you had hailed from but barely know.

We take to the skies with the story of Flight Attendants! They are the crew of the air, they are there to welcome you aboard the plane, to hand you your meal, offering the choices between chicken or beef, all these served with a smile. Their lives look effortless and glamorous on the outside but there is more to this profession than meets the eye. With our next guest, Kumareng Joey, we explore the ins and outs of such a career. We see her journey, what it took to achieve the dream of many, how she arrived at this chosen profession of hers and how she has evolved and what she has learned and gained from it.

We started this podcast with a question, and we end the season with several! For this episode, we take a quick look back at our past episodes and answer questions from our listeners! We have serious questions that could be straight from the Miss Universe Top 10 judging panel, for example, (I thank you for the question kumare Mika by the way)
"Humans are social beings by nature, what are your thoughts about rampant anxiety/depression amongst people (not just the youth) and does this correlate to the “strong, independent, man/woman” mindset that we have built as a society?" to asking us to choose between our booty and our boobies (those words exactly and we had no problem at all answering with straight faces).
Stick around till the end to hear us try pinoy tongue twisters. And ooh did they get twisted!
Disclaimer: This was recorded live on our Instagram page so we apologize for all the background noises and fluctuating volume, but also for the randomness, losing our train of thought and long-winded stories, you know the usual. This is our special thank you and kamusta (How are you doing) episode to our kumares and kumpares across the globe.

Do you sometimes find it hard to own your distinct beauty? To love your natural skin color or your not so prominent nose, to hate on the very attributes that we connect to our Pinoy roots? Do you find yourself comparing every aspect of yourself with someone else? Sadly it isn't at all that uncommon/surprising with all the unrealistic standards and expectations placed on us by the Media, Culture, and even enforced by our own families. This episode covers our own experiences, the insecurities that we have struggled with growing up surrounded by such pressures to conform to a certain look or standard of beauty expected by an ever judging Filipino society. We cover how we deal with negative feelings, such as learning to manage our thoughts and ourselves and distancing ourselves from toxic family members. Join us as we reopen old wounds and attempt to heal and learn.
