難易度★★★★☆ lesson 02.mp3 <第二回スクリプト> R:Reid S:Saki(Interviewer) S: Do you have anything that you don't like about Japan? R: Do you have a lot of time? S: Um... R: Yes, there are things about Japan that I don't like. S: Um...for example? R: Well, Um...I think that because Japan is sort of like a mono culture. I see all the same kind of people. Ah. You tend to have a lot of difficulty excepting people who are not like you. There's. There's a tendency of Japanese people to to exclude people who are not Japanese based on what they look like. I have a friend who is from Hawaii, and he is a second generation Japanese. And he finds a lot more acceptance in Japan than I do. Just because he looks like you. Even though, his thinking patterns are completely American. And this, this bothers me because even if I learn Japanese and I do everything that you do, I'm pushed out. Because of what I look like. That is discriminatory. And it should not happen. S: OK. So, what kind of behavior do you, uh, think Japanese people should do? R: Well, I think that they should judge people based on their character, not based on what they look like. And that is, probably the most bothersomething※ there is. I can belong to a community and join groups, I belong to a Shimin Mikoshi group, but there were times when I was excluded from their activities, because I was not Japanese and I've had people refuse to give me a place to live, because they were afraid dealing with non-Japanese. I've had the people like police treat me in an unequal fashion because of what I look like. Not just me, this happens to, you can ask just any, (quote)"foreigner" that lives in this country that they have to deal with discrimination. And in this day and age Japanese people travel all over the world. They meet people or they should meet people from many places, but it doesn't stop them from tightening up their little circle, and say "We Japanese do this, and you foreigners well, you stay up there." And that needs to change if Japan wants to compete and cooperate in a global stage. You want to sell your cars, and your electronics, your products to us, but you don't want to learn English, don't want to accept people from outside the country. And that's a one sided biased point of view. And that needs to change if this country is going to progress. S: Ok, thank you to answer my question. R: You're welcome. ※botherとsomethingを合わせた造語だそうです。

Lesson 01
第一回目のpodcastが完成しました! タイトル:「まに☆まに~華の女子短大生の英語学校~ 1限目:リード先生インタビュー前半」 内容:私たちの先生、リード先生へ日本での生活などについてインタビューをしました。 Lesson 01.mp3 難易度★★☆☆☆Reid: hi what's up? Interviewer: hi how are you? Reid: I'm fine thank you. and you? Interviewer: I'm fine thank you. This is our teacher, Jef Reid. Please introduce yourself. Reid: well, you already told my name. so I come from Canada. ah I spent most of my life in Toronto which is a very big multicultural city. I've lived in Niigata for about 9 years now. I'm married, and live in Matsuhama. and I teach in this college for five classes a week. Interviewer: Thank you. Reid: You are welcome. Interviewer: How long have you been in Japan? Reid: 9 years. Interviewer: Ok. That's a long time. Reid: ah sometimes it seems like a long time. Yes. Interviewer: What's the reason that you came to Japan? Reid: I met a British couple while I was on Safari in Kenya, and they said that they had been teaching English in Tokyo. And I decided that I'd like to travel to a country where I could live, I suppose, to many places I had visited only as a tourist. So the experience of coming to Japan and living like everyone else here does, here's a lot of difference simply coming as a visitor for two or three weeks and then leaving. Like you, there is completely different perspective on your country and the country that you live in. Interviewer : What is your life like in Japan? Reid : What’s my life like. Well it’s probably a lot like the average Japanese does. I have a house. I have pets. I get up to go to work. I walk my dogs. I pay my taxes. I, you know, try to deal with every day situations as best as I can, except of course there's a language barrier and a cultural barrier. It’s not very evident simply my looking at people from the outside. Japanese people tend to dress the same way I do. They tend to do the same things for recreation. They go to a job, nine to five, Monday to Friday, or maybe they work more on Saturday, but there’s a big difference in a way people think here than there is in my country.
