In this episode of the podcast, I chat with Kim Korven.
Kim Korven is an unlikely advocate of peaceful divorce. She was competitive in judo and for many years, a practicing attorney. One would expect she would enjoy conflict. Yet when her marriage was not working, she was nearly overcome with anxiety and a desire to avoid conflict with her spouse altogether. Thus, she remained married when she knew in her heart her family would be better if they separated. Traditional divorce terrified her. She knew all too well what it looked like through an attorney’s eyes. So, she set out to change the traditional narrative of dramatic, painful divorce and did so peacefully discovering that divorce can be transformative and restorative for all involved.
She learned it starts with how you raise divorce with your spouse. Kim is no longer a practicing attorney and dedicates herself to working with families as a mediator or consultant to help them achieve similar results. Kim lives in Regina, Canada with her children, second husband, retired rescue greyhounds, and several rescue cats. Most recently, she and her former spouse have begun co-parenting a cat.
A few of the questions I asked Kim:
Q: What’s The Gentle Way of Divorce?
Q: What’s the story behind starting The Gentle Way Divorce?
Q: Can you share how to tell a spouse you want a divorce using The Gentle Way Divorce?
Q: How do you know that it’s time to consider a divorce.
Q: On your website, you share that with The Gentle Way Divorce; you get to Sleep Better, Smile More, Feel Confident and Alive can you share more about that?
Q: Have you worked with anyone who considered divorce and ended up staying married?

In episode #016 of the Podcast, I chat with Jessie Newburn, a friend, aunty, mentor, and social connector.
Jessie Newburn is the Principal of GenerationsWork.
She is a leading expert in generational intelligence, focused on helping executives drive organizational change in a multi-generational workforce.
She focuses on unlocking the superpowers of every generation and empowering each to step into its role with the purpose of accelerating organizational success.
Her recommendations reduce friction, speed up change adoption and eliminate false stereotypes. She has a deep understanding of the worldviews of each generation and the cyclical patterns of society.
She leverages that knowledge to provide actionable insights for organizational leaders to understand the cycle we are in today, the role each generation plays in that cycle, and how to align individuals for rapid organizational change toward a generationally empowered future.
A few of the questions I asked Jessie;
How did she discover this work, how did she build the Hocoblogs, and how anyone can build their own thing too.
And how she built Generations Works.
How was she able to create her own degree years ago when in college?
How does one do work that one loves, every job Jessie has had seems to be one she loved.
I asked Jessie to share what she’s learned about building things and would love to pass it on to others.
We talked Pop Culture, craigslist, dating and Biden.
Resources
And at the end of our interview, Jessie and I had signed off and the recording was over. I mentioned to Jessie that she has a way of answering the questions I asked her effortlessly and going further to lead into other questions I had lined up. Jessie shared that she was using the STAR method of answering interview questions.
I wanted to pass that tip to you too… this will change your life literally if you’ve never heard of it before.
According to indeed.com; the STAR interview method is a technique you can use to prepare for behavioral and situational interview questions. STAR stands for situation, task, action, and result.
This method will help you prepare clear and concise responses using real-life examples. I’m linking this article from indeed.com so you can prep for your next interview.

#PatienceSings who lost her mom and friend, managed her anxiety, came out of depression, wrote a play, identifies as queer, and is Nigerian. This conversation was one in which I resonated, because of my recent realization that I have been dealing with anxiety all my life without knowing it.
The grief, again of losing a parent is not something we can prepare for, for some of us a loss of any kind; home, spouse, relationship, friendship can lead to a deep depression. One of my biggest take away from my conversation with Patience was how she was able to describe what depression feels like, that “it’s similar to the grief ” she shared.

In this Podcast episode I talk to Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Funmi Olugbemi, we talk about grief, how Nigerians bury their dead; 2 days, 3 days, 5 days, 40 days you read right … and dig into the Nigerian culture of bereavement support. We delve deeper into destigmatizing mental health in our Nigerian Community and talk about the purpose of therapy.
Auntie Funmi started her career in New York, starting out as a Master Prepared Nutritionist, later becoming a Registered Nurse. She has been a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for over 30 years.
She is excited about destigmatizing mental health in the Nigerian community – and she is also working on some upcoming projects.
On This Episode: We talked about what to do and not do when you lose someone; like what do you do when you hear of someone who has had a loss. Should you call, text, visit or do nothing do you wait for them to call you. I did a few things wrong when my dad passed – hahaha, go figure. If I can tutt my own horn I did some really really phenomenal things too. And apparently from a mental health point of view that’s normal because our brain is under a lot of stress and that’s where the community comes in to do the rest. Any little support they can offer helps us in those initial weeks.
Why the Grief Series Podcast? Why talk about grief?
As early as March 2020, a lot of people lost someone they held dear to them, it wasn’t until October that I too was personally affected by death. My life changed the day I found out my dad died. Like everything else I do I decided I wanted to share my perspective and to hear from others. That’s how the grief series started, with one podcast episode. As I spoke with people to find that one person to interview I quickly came to understand that GRIEF was very deep and wide and so I created this series.
Who is today’s Podcast for and who all my Podcast is for?
Loving The Work You Do Podcast really is for everyone (anyone) who wants to find the tools to become better in all they do, to get to that higher version of themselves they were created to be. And this doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with those of us that aspire to be better, what we do know is that to do our highest work and to show up as our highest self we need to be better and that comes from self-awareness.
A few of what we talked about?
* What do you do on day one, who do you call – aunties, uncles, brothers.* Should you reach out to people or should people reachout.* This thing will happen, death will happen so maybe we need to have a list of handy.* How many days does the Nigerian burial go on for, what’s it based on? * Should I be reading between the lines of what they said before they passed.* When do you get over the grief of death….
You can listen to this episode on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcast, Amazon, Audible – Podcast – Just search for LOVING THE WORK YOU DO.
Change Watch: Do This – Is there someone who recently lost a loved one and their name comes to your spirit? Why not give them a call or send a text. You don’t need to write or say the right words, send a text saying: Hi/Hello XYZ, I don’t have any words but just wanted you to know you’re in my mind and prayer. That’s all you need to send!
Sincerely in God’s Joy,
