David is so generous with his time and opinions always but particularly we believe this really shines through in this chat. We hope you will identify your own highlights, but for us, some of these are below. - Only had 3 bad days - David is so positive and enjoyed his career so much, he can pinpoint only 3 bad days in his career to date. Sticking your hand up. - Succession planning - this is a big part of what makes up David’s job right now. Love Your Career: Dean Pendergast
A truly unique episode today as we managed to snaffle the incredible Dean Pendergast whilst he was on a flying visit from New Zealand! Dean is an absolute innovator throughout his career and currently heads up the EnrolMy - the market leader in making bookings within the childcare industry simple and effective. It's a great episode where: - He talks about how leaders are both born AND made - The importance of being open minded - even at a senior level we may not always be right - How luck can give you the opportunity to get a good head start, but only you can make sure you get ahead. - How a starting point in life does not dictate where your career goes - Books - You’ll want to hear these recommendations! - CV tips and importance of honesty. - Plus a GREAT final ONE thing. Lawrence’s 3 things: “ 1. When Dean spoke about how to be a great leader he talks about the amount of literature out there that help with this. He talks about people being naturally gifted when it comes to leadership – but its through continuous hardwork and learning that you truly become a top class leader – it is both nature and nurture. 2. He talks about how he had a great start in life and how he was lucky with his upbringing however the onus is on him to develop and make sure he fulfils potential – it’s the opposite of the world owes me something mentality, it’s we owe the world something and its up to us to work towards it.  3. One thing to takeaway is to be open in your views and not afraid to accept that you are wrong – he needed to foster a team dynamic where any one can contribute but also where they feel comfortable disagreeing with senior management and that is what has pushed their business on. “ We hope you love this episode and if you have any favourite parts or if anything resonates with you we would love to hear from you.
