Welcome to Episode 12 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. First some house-keeping I know it’s been a good long while since our last episode. I’m sorry about that. I went on vacation for a while. I was fortunate to visit a friend in Taiwan. I also spent a week in Osaka, Japan right after. I think I’ll share some stuff on socials regarding some of the cool video game stuff we saw like visiting a Taito Station arcade in Osaka and just the general Nipponbashi Den Den Town area which is like the nerdy Akihabara-like area of Osaka. We went into tons of arcades or Ge-mu centa as they call them there so I think I’ll share some photos and videos of that at some point. After all that my computer broke, and got I busy with work, and also got pretty addicted to Baldur’s Gate III which is just an incredible game that I recommend to anyone who is a fan of RPGs or Dungeons and Dragons. So yes, very sorry this was delayed, but I think it was worth the wait!My amazing guest this episode is Diane Nguyen. We talk about tons of great stuff in the episode like the philosophy of what it takes to be a Pokemon Master, the urge to play games on Hard Mode for the “purest experience” of a game and letting go of judging others for playing on Easy mode or maybe even learning to forgive ourselves for doing it? Diane also shares great memories bonding with her family while playing Time Crisis in the arcades. Make sure to subscribe and review Load Save Game on your podcast listener of choice. Welcome to Episode 11 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Melissa Pountain. Melissa and I talk about a ton of great games. She’s a huge fan of Fallout 3 and New Vegas and talks about a pilgrimage she took to the New Vegas locations, and if it isn’t obvious yes, she’s married to previous guest Sandy Pountain. She talks about her love of Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts and she also agrees that Tifa is best girl. Melissa is a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda and one of her first games that she played all the way through was A Link to the Past and at the time of recording was deep into Tears of the Kingdom so we talk about Zelda through the years. Melissa also reveals what game she recommends for first time Zelda players and that answer might surprise you, so listen to find out. Melissa is an illustrator and has done commissions and fanart for lots of games and other media. The Tug o’ War game on the original N64 Mario Party was the game notorious for destroying hands on the control stick. And when the game was brought back for Mario Party Superstars it actually featured a warning not to use the palm of your hand to play the mini-game. Disneyland’s first opening day was marked by many issues and calamities causing it to be named the “Black Sunday.”Games Discussed: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom/A Link to the Past/Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask/Wind Waker/Twilight Princess/Breath of the Wild, Pong, Sonic 2, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Disney’s Aladdin, 1080, Re-Volt, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Animal Crossing, Diddy Kong Racing, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, The Sims 1/2/4, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Final Fantasy VII/VIII, Baldur’s Gate, Fire Emblem, Borderlands, Fallout 3/New Vegas/4, Mario Party, Myst, Stardew Valley, Goldeneye, Fortnite

Welcome to Episode 10 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my wonderful wife Jordan Maeve. Jordan is a huge fan of rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution, puzzle games like Tetris, and cozy games like Animal Crossing. We talk a lot about Amplitude, a rhythm game on the PS2. We don't mention it in the episode, but the developer of Amplitude, Harmonix, would go on to develop the first Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. So all our comparisons to those later games make a lot of sense in hindsight. Jordan also talks about loving her Sega Pico which was this combination tablet/TV video game with edutainment games with Sonic and other Sega characters. Jordan talks about playing a not-so-legitimate copy of Pokemon: Yellow in the original Japanese and having to decipher the game by comparing it to her friend's Pokemon games to get through it.Jordan is an illustrator and graphic designer. She frequently does portrait commissions for people's Dungeons & Dragons characters and has sold prints and merchandise at local conventions in Southern California. Welcome to Episode 9 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Sandy Pountain. Sandy is a huge fan of Warhammer and talks about how his love of war games lead him to loving games turn-based and real-time strategy games like Command & Conquer, Dawn of War, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I tease Sandy a little bit because he has this contrarian hipster streak that shows up a lot in his playthrough of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition where he plays the Engineer class, you know, pretty exclusive class, not sure if you’ve heard of it. Sandy also talks about his love of sharing co-op experiences like playing Streets of Rage with his brothers and Lego: Batman with his wife and how those were wonderful bonding experiences for him. We also talk about a kind of duality of violence where increasingly as graphics in games became more impressive the violence in them felt more real and how he experienced this reckoning with that when playing Spec Ops: The Line, which is a game that tries to examine and humanize the experience of military shooter games. We ask the question, is the newly crowned King Charles immune to holy spells? And also how hard would a Hitmonchan have to punch to knock out a Wailord, which is a Pokemon that’s as big as a full size whale? Sandy is a lover of Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer, among other tabletop roleplaying games. He posts some of his customized painted minis on his instagram so make sure to follow him @smallman_syndrome_painting. A link will also be in the show notes. Welcome to Episode 8 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Xanthe Huynh. I first met Xanthe back in our college Japanese class and while I think we’ve both wasurechatta’d a lot of our Japanese we still kept in touch many years later. I still remember Xanthe talking about how she wanted to do voice acting full-time and it’s been amazing seeing her journey and how far she’s come in her career. Now she’s doing video game and anime voice acting for all these amazing anime series and games and I’m so proud of her because I know it was a lot of hard work and dedication to make it all happen. In the episode Xanthe talks about: what it’s like voice acting for video games, all her favorite memories playing volleyball and boxing kangaroos in the Tekken series, playing party games like Wario Ware and Just Dance with friends, and how DDR exposed her to Techno and House music for the first time. Jackie Chan Adventures show (2000) and PS2 game (2004) came out much later. The pink outfit girl ape in Donkey Kong Racing was Dixie Kong and the turtle was Tiptup the Turtle. According to Wikipedia Gran Turismo is actually the best selling PS1 game of all time, followed by FFVII, and Gran Turismo 2. I neglected to mention that the Gon character from Tekken 3 was actually a guest character from the Masashi Tanaka manga series. The boxing character in Tekken is named Steve Fox. Rune Factory Frontier was on the Wii and was released in 2009 in North America. Games Discussed: Octopath Traveler I/II, Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros. Welcome to Episode 7 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Becky Kralle. In the episode Becky talks about getting into gaming as an adult after working in eSports live broadcasting productions. We also talk about her love of socializing with friends while playing multiplayer games like Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Valorant, and many others. While growing up Becky said she might have watched people play video games more than playing them herself which sort of makes her a perfect person to be putting on professional eSports productions which are essentially watching really talented people play video games. Welcome to Episode 6 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Gwen Chase. Gwen is one of my oldest friends. We’ve gone to tons of conventions together like San Diego Comic-con, PAX, Anime Expo. In the episode Gwen tells me about her treasured memories playing the original Tomb Raider games with her Dad, fighting fascists and Mad Max Racing in the Jak and Daxter games, playing Mario Kart DS with our friends in line at Disneyland which felt so revolutionary at the time. The Game Gear could run 3-5 hours off of six AA batteries according to Wikipedia. The villain in Vectorman was named Warhead. Gwen was most likely referring to Race the Sun (2013). Keira’s father is Samos Hagai in the Jak and Daxter series. Sonic the Hedgehog first turns gold in the ending sequence of Sonic 2, dubbed ‘Super Sonic’ and became a regular gameplay feature in Sonic 3. According to the Jak X wiki page, the reason for the racing is that they are all poisoned essentially at someone’s funeral wake and must win a racing championship to get the antidote. Wild. Gameboy Advances originally sold for $100 at launch according to Google. According to a Reddit post I found, the minimum number of rounds in Mario Party DS is 10. Technically the Nintendo 2DS XL was a later released hinged version of a 2DS, but the original 2DS lacked a hinge. I actually cut out a part where Gwen says she couldn’t remember a single Gameboy Advance game she played, but I’m too lazy to go back and re-add it. Games Discussed: Pikuniku, Dead Space (2008 and Remake), Ms. Pac-Man, Tiger handheld: Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Batman, Simon’s Quest, Sonic 1/2/& Knuckles/Adventure/Adventure 2, Vectorman, Shadowrun, Space Harrier, Race the Sun, Barbie Genie, Swamp Gas, Elroy: Hits the Pavement, Space Channel 5, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Rhythm Heaven, Dance Dance Revolution, Samba de Amigo, Tomb Raider 1/2/3/Angel of Darkness/4/(2013)/Rise of the Tomb Raider, Jak and Daxter 1/2/3/X Combat Racing, Uncharted, Kingdom Hearts 1/2/3, Big Brain Academy, Brain Age, Mario Kart DS/7, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure, Elroy Goes Bugzerk, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Party Hard

My wonderful guest today is my great friend Heidi-Kat Schultz. Heidi and I met in highschool and reconnected through an old D&D friend group years later and we’ve been friends ever since. We talk about a ton of great games in this episode. Heidi tells us how fun it was to play God and roleplay her favorite fandoms in The Sims. We talk about Heidi’s cherished memories of getting an N64 and beating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We talk about the tremendous storytelling and characters from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series. Heidi also gives me a quick education on Otome dating sim games and how her love for them motivated her to start a fansite called otomeriot.com. Link to that and her socials in the show notes.Spoiler Warning: We do talk spoilers for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series. While talking about Stardew Valley I technically neglect the Community Center upgrades in Stardew which are kind of a big book of goals, but those upgrades are all optional technically, and not required to progress the game! Our Life: Beginnings & Always could arguably be described more as a visual novel than an Otome game, but a lot of the storytelling is undoubtedly similar to an Otome game experience. In the episode we talk about a ton of great games, 4X games like Civilization, the varying levels of freedom and player agency in JRPGs vs. Western RPGs vs. Tabletop RPGs. Quincy talks about taking one of the early video game design classes as UC Santa Cruz, wanting to create his ideal game which is like an MMORPG society-builder game where players could organically create quests and effect the game world. Probably not enough to purchase a gaming PC in most cases. At the time of this writing a Nintendo Switch OLED is listed at $319.99 at Gamestop. 4x stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate according to Wikipedia. The free team-based FPS game that Quincy was referring to was probably Apex legends. I mention XCOM: Enemy Within (which was DLC), I meant to say XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but both were very fun. The game Quincy refers to as Lighthouse Keeper appears to be titled A Fisherman’s Tale. Lighthouse Keeper is a different game.
