His beautiful collection of stories throughout our existence shifts us back toward our centers and guides us back into the wholeness we forgot we were. He draws from the continuous stream of knowledge and holds the cup out for us, quenching our thirst for truth, belonging and authenticity. This podcast has accompanied me through the last few years like a wise and compassionate friend. The topic of each show seems to always expand on something I have found myself in conversation with- within myself- in the week. The storytelling is fresh and alive, and I find joy in the weaving through time and myth, inevitably coming right back here to the present, renewed.

Myths play a crucial role in our lives and Michael Meade reminds us of how they serve as cultural touchstones, reflecting the values, beliefs, and traditions of a society. For the last few years I have done a great deal of inner work in the Jungian sense in reflection of the stage of my life I call “the third act”. Michael’s talks have been very helpful in creating a thread through the central themes of my journey connecting the inner work of the subconscious to the outer world and how my own self or core engages with the season of “my third act”.

This podcast, it’s perspectives and offerings are so beneficial to my wellbeing and I am sure the wellbeing of all those who listen. It is widening and beautifully expansive. Michael Meade takes ideas from mythology and depth psychology and connects them masterfully and you feel like you gained an intuitive understanding of things that are important and difficult to communicate. Just started listening the episode “ beyond anxiety “ blew my mind. 🤯 it speaks to the human experience on a down-to-earth level and shows how anxiety is a piece of that story. A much needed perspective! Grateful to have found this podcast.

So I didn’t think I was interested in myths - im too practical and rooted in the here and now, and I have a weak imagination. I was required to listen to a few episodes of this podcast for a program and I haven’t stopped listening. Sometimes his words cut so close to my heart’s truth about our world (truths that are rarely reflected in mainstream american culture) that it brings tears, and relief too — im not alone in this struggle — I am just alive during a special time in the big human story.

A friend recommended listening . I started at the most recent and am working my way backwards. Each episode is wonderful. I am so grateful for each episode and encouraged with Michael’s wisdom teachings. He connects the dots between all the dimensions and his clarity and Cosmic perspective gives me Peace and Hope. This podcast could be called Living Sage, as Michael Meade continually provides us with medicine and guidance for our dark times. With each new episode, I feel like I’m tuning into a secret well of wisdom, coming away with a renewed spirit and sense of meaning. Somehow, things are going to be okay. The world will be born again. Thank you Michael, your work is so important and appreciated.

A few years ago, I wouldn’t have had the patience to listen for what was being said in between the words spoken. However, I have heard ideas shared that have help me understand and navigate the “dark times”. “Dark Times” is a phrase that is regularly heard but there are nuggets of wisdom that have been shared during each episode that I’ve listened to so far. There have also been a couple of Aha! moments where I’ve heard something in a myth or folktale. I appreciate Mr. Meade’s gifts but he’s not for everyone and that’s okay.

He is smart but every show has the same theme and tone: “these are dark times”. He watches the news, gets depressed and writes “A Dixie ain’t what used be” podcast sprinkling in quotes and stories from ancient times. I don’t know what times were so good that by contrast these are so bad. It’s Debbie Downer with vocab from Jung and Joesph Campbell.

Michael Mead is a insightful and knowledgeable mythology based storyteller. But unfortunately he gets swept up into his politics and actually alienates a lot of listeners. EVERYONE would be blessed by these stories and Micheal’s insights on how they can be applied in one’s life. I’m on the far far left and feel alienated from the story when Michael gets political. I wish I could send these episodes to my father (who is very right wing) but he would recoil once Michael starts up with the politics. It’s very, very unfortunate. Using these wisdom filled stories to promote a U.S. based political agenda hallows out their power and feels very misguided.

Thank you Michael, for giving us so Much wisdom and depth perspective in a time of incredible upheaval . You are making sense of the senseless , putting soul back into the lost soul and giving context by being a weaver of myth and story from a united and tormented humankind . What a loving tribute to Robert. Doesn’t every poet long to be heard? Though some like Wallace Stevens preferred to be read. Stevens was more introverted and a student symbolists Stéphane Mallarmé..I certainly prefer to hear Robert read his own poems aloud, for sure... There is an added significance for me, since I am a poet and was told that words, literature even symbolic thinking was out of bounds for someone of my limited intelligence. Poetry and literature were only the realm of English majors. Thank goodness for Charles Bukowski and Simic ! I did have one English teacher at Downers Grove North High School in 1974 ( He had long hair and wore a colorful vest) that taught the transcendentalist and had us read George Orwell and listen to Johnny Winters. He didn’t give a damned if we read fast or slow or memorized. He was interested in what we thought and felt in our heart. In some ways Bly spoke to me, in other ways He was a little too untouchable. I had a significant learning difference ( dyslexia ) so in a sense, I was one of the developmentally disabled children that Bly mentioned in his dream and wrote about in his famous poem. But yes I appreciated Robert’s pace, cadence and mostly raw talent. You’re fortunate you got to know him, a bit. This is certainly the greatest gift of all, friendship. I read my poems in analysis for the first time in 1995. This became an important practice, like dreams. This gave me the confidence to read at Penny lane and a few larger gatherings. It is so healing to be heard. And can be electrifying. Like whitewater kayaking a big Western River. I wouldn’t place Bly in the pantheon of Seamus Heaney, Czesław Milosz, Robert Graves or even Richard’s relative Siegfried Sassoon. But Robert definitely touched me. Thank you for your touching tribute Russell. I would love to read you and Murray one my poems one day. And hear one of yours.

Myth and current political and cultural situation intertwined is so helpful. Michael Meade has a great voice even reassuring while he's telling us the truth, but using a wide angle lens, poetry and myth. I'm so grateful.

Psyche desires Soul. I did not know the word “psyche” as used in Psychology comes from the Greek word for Soul. The collective atmosphere includes Great Nature. Remembering from the depths of our individual psyche has the power to solve the climate crisis.
