I never thought I'd grow up to the realisation that I was raised by two mentally ill parents. In my younger years, I would have viewed my situation with judgement, scorn and embarrassment. At this point in time, I'm convinced that a combination of unresolved trauma, social and cultural environments, inadequate self care, fear and insecurity, genetic disposition and of course - free will and choice, all play a major role in causing mental illnesses. Through my own healing journey, I'm discovering layers of generational trauma that I have to deal with. It's not only what I have experienced in my life time either. I'm finding myself in a position where I also have to deal with my Father's traumas and Mother's traumas that I seem to have inherited, too. Irrespective of where I find myself at this stage of my life, I have made a significant choice. And that choice is; I choose to take accountability.
I will fight.
I will be victorious.
I am. I can. I Will.
I am the author of my fate.
I have decided.
