loving learning
love this podcast. Hi marks for Uddin as a well read and rounded student. Hoping Michelle Boorsteen gets more practice with interviewing. less prattling. more active listening and fewer nested questions.

Descriptions Please
So a podcast from a bookstore that involves the authors talking about their books and the store wanting to sell the books can't tell you what the book is about? Just one descriptive sentence, is that so hard? Either that or all authors should be required to title their books, "This Book is About ...".

Need more clues
When I choose a podcast, even though there's a brief description of the book, it's not enough. I find myself listening and then closing that podcast because the subject is not what I expected. It would help if you would describe more specifically what the books concern. Other than that, I love this show and your store.

I like this
I like it that I can listen to these authors expand on the ideas they present in their book. Some of these people have really interesting stories and have put a lot of research into their subjects. Informative!

Good speakers; awful introductions
I agree with the other reviewer about sound quality, but I’d also like to add my two cents on the introductions. Slate’s other podcasts are all hosted by articulate speakers who get conversations off in a lively fashion. These live events are hosted, one assumes, by bookstore owners/employees, who may have great book knowledge, but know neither how to craft a speech nor how to deliver it. Surely Slate has been selective about which of its excellent writers actually have speaking skills. The same is needed for this podcast, even though it is with a partner. Listening to a dull droning introductory reading of the speaker’s CV is painful. If you can’t avoid it live, why not actually edit it out of the live podcast? And while you are editing, what about editing out the questioners aimlessly listening to themselves speak?

Sound quality is terrible, which is a shame for a good show
I like this podcast—a long form author talk/interview is important and much needed—but the sound quality is TERRIBLE. The mics on nearly every interview are poorly decibeled; you can usually hear the speaker breathing in a very awkward way, and many segments begin with a question similar to “can everybody hear me?” As a result, it is not a very listenable podcast, and moreover, it sounds quite amateurish. Surely there is someone in Washington D.C. who you could hire to make this podcast sound good. Otherwise, it suffers from not being at a competitive level with other podcasts. It does not sound like it was made by the intellectual, thoughtful people I know are behind it.
