In Matthew 14, we read about a confrontation that happened between John the Baptist and Herod the tetrarch, and the confrontation eventually led to John’s death. John was faithful to the truth, even though it came with a cost.

Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight.” Solomon urges us to receive true wisdom and skill so we can live a life that will bring glory to God.

Psalm 17:3 says, “I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.” David made it the intentional pursuit of his life to not sin against God with the words of his mouth.

Matthew 13 records the parable of the sower, which is a parable that Jesus told that teaches us how important it is to pay attention to how we hear and respond to God’s Word.

Psalm 12:6 says, “The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.”

Matthew 9:36 says, “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with new wine.”

Psalm 9:9-10 says, “The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.”

Jesus has sent us into the world with the message of the gospel. The church has a mission, but if we’re not careful, we can become so comfortable that we forget why we exist.
