Life is Funny
Josh Tucker and Evan Brinnon
Welcome to the Life is Funny podcast where we think we are funny and hope that you might too! We love to talk about topics that are important in our lives even though most of the time we are far from experts. Tune in for a fun, chill time where you'll almost surely laugh at least once and maybe even learn a thing or two!
Ep. 363: How the Heck to Get a Human on the Phone
This week, the guys have some thoughts about human interaction, especially when it happens in a customer service setting. Evan has literally been on the phone for days on end, and he was basically locked in a loop of talking to an automated answering machine with no end in sight. So, did he break through and talk to a person? Or is he still stuck?! Josh and Evan also had a funny ice cream customer service interaction, and it got them talking about other customer service stuff. Maybe it's good to get on the phone and talk to someone, or even communicate in person once in a while! The guys also share some Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits, and they check out what's coming up on the calendar.

Ep. 362: Evan's Helicopter Pilot was HOW Old?!?
This week, Evan has some historic helicopter happenings to harp on! While Josh is under the weather, Evan is flying high after some special high flying. He takes Josh through the ins and outs of his wild ride, including some very cool moments with his Vietnam War Veteran grandpa. There are plenty of Fact of the Week tidbits mixed in, and it turns out that Josh might have some similar small-town facts to add as well! The guys talk about their experience with small towns before getting into other stuff, so stay tuned. And as always, there are some sick "sticking it to the man" tidbits, and they see what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 361: Can a Human Digest a Dog Chew Toy?
This week, the guys reconvene for some chitchat after Josh's Canadian conquest. There are a couple of things to recap from his trip up north, but the guys still don't have clarity on exactly how to pronounce Toronto like a local, despite Josh claiming he's a convincing Canadian. In other news, Evan had some wiener trouble of the dog variety, and it caused some pre-travel problems that seem to be past him. And while on the topic of dog debacles, the guys get to ponder just how long they think they could keep a plastic chew toy trapped in their guts. Would it ever come out? Who knows! There's also some discussion about the role of AI in the hiring and job searching realm, and other tangents. And as always, there are Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits before checking out what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 360: Finding Our Most Famous Friend
This week, the guys found out some fun news and may have a new most famous friend! With an officially MLB pitcher officially in the rolodex, Josh is pretty confident that he has a most famous friend, and Evan is trying to figure out who takes his top spot. Funnily enough, is there any chance that any listeners out there consider a certain podcast host(s) to be their most-famous friend(s)? The guys discuss how fame has changed over the years and whether social media has made it easier or harder to get famous. And stay tuned for some breaking news about one of Westfield's most famous faces, Joey Chestnut! There are also Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits galore, and they check out what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 359: Who's Ready for a Robot Body?
This week, the guys try to get to the bottom of whether you are really you if you are a robot. Evan is chomping at the bit to become a cyborg, but they're not sure at what point you stop becoming 'you' if you're just all electronics. Do you need to have skin and bones? Or at least have a brain? What about being just a brain in a vat? What if we already are all just brains in vats?! Josh and Evan might not have all the answers, but it's fun to philosophize about. Not everyone enjoys pondering life's big what-ifs, but it can be a fun exercise that's a lost art these days. The guys also talk about spicy neighborhood secrets, bring up some Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits, and check out what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 358: Wine Wednesday at Walgreens
This week, the guys get together to discuss all sorts of things, from whether they believe people are doing their best to whether walking into a Walgreens and duping someone into selling Evan some illegal wine feels as scummy as it sounds... Will you get as much secondhand embarrassment as Josh does from Evan's cringey story? At least you didn't have to live through it as Evan did! In other news, listen in for some stories about the end of Westfield's Census woes, Mother's Day, and more. The guys have some good thoughts about how and why to see the best in people, and probably thoughts about other stuff too! There are also some Fact of the Week and stellar "sticking it to the man" tidbits, but they forgot to check what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 357: Soul-Sucking Social Media?!
This week, the guys gab about social media and how it can suck so much time and energy these days. Stupid amounts of scrolling can send someone spiraling, so should we stop succumbing to social media's siren song? Maybe it's not that bad to be on your phone, and it could just be part of life these days. Either way, Josh and Evan are out of the social media loop, and maybe they should be selling their souls for more social media success! Who knows, it could just take one viral TikTok or Instagram Reel to make it big! The guys share some shelving successes from their respective homes and some other general banter. And as always, there are Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits mixed in before seeing what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 356: Bog Boys, Swamp Studs, or Marsh Men?
This week, the guys get into the weeds about the difference between bogs, swamps, and marshes. As riveting as that sounds, it's really just a precursor to a conversation about AI data centers that could crumble the environment and economy as we know it! Does having AI suck up all the water make any sense at all, or is it as bad an idea as it sounds? And will these data centers even stick around long term, or will they become obsolete as technology moves on and leave problems and people in their wake?! Both Josh and Evan have thoughts on how things like AI will impact the future, and it leads to some interesting thoughts about leaving legacies, and what motivates people to plan for a future they may never see versus living large while they last. So, is there any hope for future generations? Who knows! But some things that are certain are some Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits, and whatever's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 355: Cancel Car-centric Culture?!
This week, the guys are back to chatting about cars. But wait, wait, wait! Before you skip the episode to avoid another "How Cars Work" fiasco, this car conversation is much cooler. As a couple of Americans from the Midwest, Josh and Evan are used to a car-centric culture. But is that a good thing, or could we all benefit from cutting out cars? It might actually be impossible to cut cars completely at this point, but the guys have differing opinions on how car culture could evolve in the future. Will cars ever completely drive themselves or become flying chauffeurs? Or are they destined to always have drivers? The guys weigh in on these questions and more, and they sprinkle some Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" tidbits before checking what's coming up on the calendar!

Ep. 354: The Census is Coming for Josh!
This week, Josh is coming to his senses. Er, wait, actually, the Census is coming for Josh! After MONTHS of talking about how Josh's neighborhood is calling out to be counted, the Census is finally coming around. And coincidentally, Evan gets to be the one to creep around town. Even still, the Census is letting the city of Westfield down, and it's all a little 'too little, too late' even though they're hopping around pestering people on Easter. The guys also share their opinions on escape rooms, and Evan, the resident escape room professional, is passionate! In other news, Evan had a close call with a coyote, and there's surely some other stuff going on in their lives. And as always, there's a Fact of the Week and "sticking it to the man" somewhere before they see what's coming up on the calendar!
