Appreciating Failure
I spent ages 18-25 trying to make the Olympics. I got as close as you can get without making it, that was devastating at the time, and it took a long time to come to terms with that. And as I reflected on my athletic career for this episode, it is clear to me that my success was directly related to how much I failed. I hated failing at the time, and when it happened time and time again, I'll be honest there were moments that I doubted my abilities because of those failures. But now, from the safety of my house, with time and distance from those experiences I see them differently. There was no chance of my growth, and ultimately my chance at the Olympics, without those failures. I needed them more than I needed my success, because without failing I probably never would have improved to the level I needed. Now as I move on to my next adventure in life I want to carry this appreciation and understanding of failing with me as I go. And I hope you will do the same after listening to this episode.

What we are getting wrong about mistakes
Here are a few points to consider when it comes to mistakes in life (some I expand on in the episode and others are for you who read the show description :) Mistakes are a natural and inevitable part of life. Everyone makes mistakes at some point, and it is important to recognize that it is a normal and necessary part of the learning process. Making mistakes can be an opportunity to learn and grow. By reflecting on our mistakes and considering what we could have done differently, we can gain valuable insights and develop new skills and strategies. It is important to recognize that mistakes do not define us as individuals. We are all human, and making mistakes is simply part of being human. It is important to recognize that we are all imperfect and to strive to learn and grow from our mistakes, rather than dwelling on them. It is important to be honest about our mistakes and to take responsibility for them. By owning up to our mistakes and apologizing when appropriate, we can build trust and respect with others. It is important to learn from our mistakes and to not repeat them in the future. By understanding what went wrong and taking steps to avoid similar mistakes in the future, we can improve our decision-making skills and increase our chances of success. It is important to remember that mistakes can be an important source of resilience and strength. By learning to bounce back from setbacks and failures, we can develop the mental and emotional resilience needed to overcome challenges and achieve our goals.
