Katie has created 25th birthday cards with a pledge inside promising that you'll hold your loved one accountable to book their pap smear within the next month. HELLOOOO beautiful listeners and welcome back to another ep of Let's Talk, Period.
This week, Isabella sat down with Victoria Spiliopoulous, Founder and Principal Instructor at Vicalates. In the midst of COVID-19, Vic, like everyone else, found her plans dramatically changed! Fancy seeing you here! It's Wednesday and that means it's definitely time for our latest episode and this one is with the lovely Summeet Seyan.
In this episode, Isabella sat down with Summeet Seyan, who was born and raised in Canada and the US, as a first generation Indian-Canadian, before moving to London with her husband, shortly after she was diagnosed with PCOS due to irregular and lengthy cycles. After 6 years of being on the pill and then working on her diet, Summeet was able to fall pregnant naturally and have her first child. Soon after, her periods returned and they were regular, so Summeet assumed everything was back to normal and her PCOS had eased. It was then when her periods became extremely heavy, so heavy that she needed iron and B12 injections. It was then another two and a half years before they would welcome their next child, and this time navigating yet another health system, with Summeet and her family having moved to Japan. After this birth her period returned quickly and as such her doctor suggested the Mirena, but after six months of sharp pelvic pain and discomfort she opted to have it removed. Most recently, Summeet calls Sydney home and has recently undergone a hysterectomy due to her severe symptoms. She aims to share more about her experiences with women's health and what it's like to navigate four different healthcare systems, whilst trying to advocate for yourself. Summeet is incredibly open, honest and raw in her recount of her experiences and we really think you'll connect with this one.
Loved listening to what Summeet and want even more from her? You can find her on instagram @londonodyessy. If you want to keep up with what we're up to you can follow us on Instagram at @letstalkperiodau. It's time for our next ep, can you believe!? This one is with two literal rays of sunshine, Lar and Cath!
In this episode, Isabella sat down with Lauren and Catherine Lee, the founders of Semaine Health. Lar and Cath are identical twin sisters both living with endometriosis. After a 15 year wait to be officially diagnosed, Lar had multiple surgeries for her stage IV endo and Cath excision surgery for her stage II. Based on their experience of having their period pain dismissed for years, Cath and Lar started their own plant-based supplement company called Semaine. Their first supplement is an all-natural anti-inflammatory for people with painful periods. Their biggest dream for Semaine is that it pushes the medical and pharma industries to take womxn's pain seriously. We talk on their endometriosis stories, the burnout and stress that can come from trying to manage a chronic condition, the why behind starting Semaine health, as well as the journey to launching, the key ingredients, what each one does and why it was so important to make them plant based and dairy free, the highlights and impact they've created so far, and we touch on what's coming up next for Semaine! Lar and Cath are like beams of light and were such a delight to have on the show, so we absolutely know you're going to connect and resonate with what they have to say!
Loved listening to what Lar and Cath had to say? Want more from Semaine Health? You can find them on instagram @semainehealth and head to their website here.
