In April 2009 an earthquake struck central Italy, leading to the collapse of over 15,000 buildings. The disaster left 299 people dead, 1,500 injured and about 34,000 living in emergency shelters. UCL's Dr Tiziana Rossetto led a team of earthquake experts to the devastated region to investigate why it suffered so much damage from an earthquake of relatively modest size.
