Episode 78: Feedback Is For Narcissists
You’re finishing up a presentation and you feel like you could have done better. Sure, things went pretty well. You didn’t pass out or throw up at the front of the room, but you know it wasn’t your best work.So afterwards, you ask a couple of colleagues for some feedback. Of course, they regale you with praise and congratulations on what a great job you did. Not exactly what you were looking for, so you ask again. “Come on guys, give me some feedback on what I could have done better.”Now they may say things like “No, really you did great!” or “I think everyone really enjoyed your presentation.”<Sigh> Why is it so hard to get good feedback? Well, let’s be honest. Being asked for feedback kind of sounds like a trap, right?..Full transcript can be found here: https://jglenos.com/2021/11/09/feedback-is-for-narcissists/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com and leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching   Jimmy GlenosWork/Life Performance CoachLEAD+SUCCEED [email protected]://www.linkedin.com/in/jglenos/https://www.facebook.com/leadandsucceed/https://twitter.com/jglenoshttps://www.instagram.com/jimmyglenos/

Episode 77: We Can Do This, If...
You’re in a meeting with your team and you’re delivering some news that will likely not be well received. You’re not going to be able to have the annual company dinner party this year because the current budget cannot cover the costs. After the groans and eye rolls begin to subside, you go on to deliver even more bad news. Needless to say, the meeting does not elicit any positive or motivating vibes…at all.But this meeting did not have to be all doom and gloom. There could have been a silver lining, a glimmer of hope, an opportunity to learn, to grow, and possibly even transform. But how?Full transcript can be found here: https://jglenos.com/2021/10/26/we-can-do-this-if/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com and leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching   Jimmy GlenosExecutive Coach/Performance CoachLEAD+SUCCEED [email protected]://www.linkedin.com/in/jglenos/https://www.facebook.com/leadandsucceed/https://twitter.com/jglenoshttps://www.instagram.com/jimmyglenos/

Episode 75: Are Your Audio and Video in Sync?
You’re watching a video of a vendor pitching their latest product, but the audio is about a half second behind the video. You’re slightly put off by the misalignment, but you can handle it. It’s kind of like watching a poorly dubbed kung fu movie from the 70s, but not nearly as entertaining. But as it continues, it becomes super annoying to watch and listen to because the timing is so far off, and quite frankly, you’re losing interest in what they are selling. After about 53 seconds you decide to turn it off and do something else. Why?Full transcript can be found here: https://jglenos.com/2021/10/05/are-your-audio-and-video-synced/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com and leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching   Jimmy GlenosExecutive Coach/Performance CoachLEAD+SUCCEED [email protected]://www.linkedin.com/in/jglenos/https://www.facebook.com/leadandsucceed/https://twitter.com/jglenoshttps://www.instagram.com/jimmyglenos/

Episode 74: Business Plays Offense, Defense, and Special Teams
It’s fourth and long with just two and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter. You have the ball on the fifty-yard line and you are behind by three points. What do you do?Not an easy decision. But think about what got you here. Which players were instrumental in bringing you this close to victory? Which players will get you in the win column? And do they play offense or defense? Or do they play on special teams? No matter how you break it down, all players and teams are critical to success in winning a football game.Full transcript can be found here: https://jglenos.com/2021/09/09/business-plays-offense-defense-and-special-teams/ Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com and leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching

Episode 73: Welcome to the Dance
You’re walking through the halls of your workplace offices, as you do every day, and you see that people are quietly keeping at their work and looking rather productive. You turn the corner and find two employees in a conversation, and as you get closer you realize they are actually in a bit of a heated discussion. You don’t want to pry, so you turn around and head back to your office.Let’s face it, confrontation is not your strong suit, and you really aren’t in the mood right now to settle a workplace dispute. Plus, these are adults. They can figure it out, right? But why are they arguing in the first place? You’re a good, strong leader. You should have seen this coming. What happened? Do you need to be stricter with policy? Do you need to get in and manage more acutely? Or have you not been paying enough attention to your people and the company as a whole? It could be all of these things, or it could be none of them. But one thing’s for sure. You need to get a better grasp of what is going on in and around your people because your and their success depends on it.Full transcript can be found here:https://jglenos.com/2021/08/31/welcome-to-the-dance/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com or leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching

Episode 72: Change is a Four-Room Apartment
You’re anxiously anticipating getting everyone back in the office. Human Resources is about to send out the email communication dictating how people will be coming back to the workplace. You’ve read the communication and you’ve talked with a few of your peers. Everyone is on board, but you also sense your remote workforce is less than eager to get back in the office. So what are you going to do to create a sense of trust, belonging, and safety? More importantly, how are you going to convince your team they need to get back into the old routine of coming into the office each day?Change is hard, and as leaders, we all need to deal with change before our teams do. We need to understand the four stages that people go through and how to handle each stage effectively and empathically. So what are the four stages of change? Let’s consider change like it’s a four-room apartment.Contentment, Denial, Confusion, and Renewal.Full transcript can be found here:https://jglenos.com/2021/08/17/change-is-a-four-room-apartment/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com or leadnsucceed.com#jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching

Episode 71: The Words We Use Say a Lot
You’ve asked one of your direct reports to see you in your office. It’s about a recent mistake they’ve made and you want to provide some feedback and maybe a little coaching. They enter the room sheepishly and slump down in the chair opposite your desk. You don’t want to beat around the bush, so you ask, “What the heck happened with the Smith account?”They remain quiet and then softly reply, “I thought it was the right thing to do.”You are getting a little hotter now and shoot back, “Why would you think that is the right thing to do?”If you’ve been on either side of this conversation, you are not alone. We all have been either the give or receiver of what some people call “feedback”.Obviously, these are just the opening lines of a more crucial feedback conversation, but notice how this all started? It began with an accusatory question and continued in that same fashion. You can imagine this conversation did not get much better after this opening gambit. So what happened? And how can we do better when we seek answers and want to provide good feedback and coaching?Full transcript can be found here: https://jglenos.com/2021/08/03/the-words-we-use-say-a-lot/Learn more about Executive Coaching: jglenos.com or leadnsucceed.comSee most recent posts: #jglenos #leadnsucceed #executivecoaching #performancecoaching

You’re thinking about your work over the past week, or the last challenging conversation you had with your child or your parent, or maybe you’re thinking about the future and how to achieve your most audacious goals. You’re probably also thinking is, “Why do I keep making these same mistakes? Why is this so hard all the time? Why don’t I know what I want and how to get it?”These are great questions! And it totally makes sense to be asking them, because you know you can do better and you want to do better. So you decide to read that self-help book that’s been sitting on the shelf for months, probably even years. Better yet, you decide you’re going to buy the latest, most popular self-help book written by one of the top coaches in the world.
