FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. It’s defined as the tendency to be afraid of something you have no information about or in simple terms, the fear of uncertainty. To some extent, we all have this fear of not knowing what may happen next and I believe it’s normal. After all, we’re just humans with mere emotions that sometimes overwhelms us. And this leads us to the question, how do we overcome these fears? Our character for today’s Bible story shows an example of how to overcome this fear of the unknown. He was also once a cowardly man that overthinks so much, but he was able to overcome his fears and save his people. Who is this man and how did he do it? Listen on to find out more about him.

What would you feel if you were suddenly given a job that does not fit your skillset and feels like it’s something you cannot do? Our character for today’s Bible story was contented and quietly living away from his people but was suddenly given a grievous task to save them from slavery in one the greatest nation during their time. How easy is it to forgive someone who wronged you? How easy is it to continue trusting and hoping, despite experiencing too many difficulties? How easy is it to keep your faith when your current circumstance challenges you to do the opposite? Our character for today’s bible story would have answered NOT EASY to these questions. He was betrayed a lot of times. He was sold as a slave, was framed up, he was wrongly accused, and was forgotten by a fellow that he had helped. We often hear different horror stories of a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law relationship feuds. In fact, there’s too much that it has become a normal and expected thing for some. But while there are many stories like this, there are also stories of love and support between a mother in law and a daughter in law. Our character for today’s bible story is one of those supportive daughter in laws that you may meet. She went above and beyond her duty as a daughter in law and did everything she can to comfort and support her grieving mother in law, despite not having the need to do so. Why did she do it? What would you do if you were given a task that’s contrary to what God wills you to do? And what if the task comes with a promise of great riches and power, will you accept and do it?

If you belong to the minority and pressured to conform with the majority, what would you do? If they criticized you for standing up for what you believe and stating your opinion, would you retract what you said and agree with the other party?

People say blood is thicker than water. And a mother's love for her child is incomparable. But this doesn't seem to apply to our character for today's Bible story. As she chose riches, power, and glory over her own family. How does this tragic story end?

Why would you choose to help your enemy nation, rather than your own? One that’s foreign to your land, one that is set to destroy your beloved nation. Why would you trust their words? What do they have that made you help them? These are the questions that I had while reading about the character for our bible story this evening. Did she trust the right people?
