It’s one of those things we obviously take for granted. The ability to bathe and feed ourselves; the ability to come and go as we please. We can do it all for ourselves… until we can’t. Or until a loved one can’t. Home care workers know this all too well, and there’s a shortage of them, like there’s a shortage of teachers and nurses. How might such shortages be solved? By collaboration, investment, professional respect. To the New York home care workers who rallied at the Capitol this week, the most tangible answer is, of course– and what else would you expect? Pay.
