
In this episode of Leading with Student Acitivities Bruce interviews Madelyn Giles, the Director of the Freshman Leadership Advisory Council (FLAC) the representative body that oversees the 20 Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs). FLOs account for more than 10% of the experience of each freshmen class at Texas A&M by providing membership opportunities to 1,200+ students a year and 400+ student leadership roles. One of many areas of FLAC is the coordinated recruitment process which in 2020 was handled 100% virtual for the first time and led to more than370,000 impressions on instagram and in the end there were 5,600 applications submitted! And so with that being said we have Kelly joining us today and Kelly's with the 12th can suck it Kelleigh introduced herself cuz there's so much cool going on. And so Kelly, why don't you take it away. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Yeah, thank you Bruce. So it's brief you mentioned. My name is Kelly. I'm a first-generation college student business owners major in management from Pasadena, Texas, which is a small town outside of Houston. I'm the executive director for the 12th can this year and I've been with the 12 can for the past three years going on like forth. So I'm very excited to be here. Yeah, we're so thankful to have you so you said you've been with 12 can for the last 3 and 1/2 years. That means you got plugged in like right away. So can you tell our listeners a little bit about what the 12th can is often? What inspired you to get involved? Yeah, the 12th can is Texas A&M on campus food pantry founded back in 2013. We serve all current students staff and faculty in need of assistance office and I got involved back my freshman year. I saw an email from FDA and they talked about this little food pantry on campus and having done work with the Houston I think back home.

You're here. You're a student. Tell us a little bit about yourself groups and my name's Courtney. My name is Courtney from kitchens. If you want my first and last name, it is kind of a mouthful. I am a fifth-year student at A&M. So in the class of 2020, but I'll actually be graduating in May of 2021 with my master of science in marketing and I'm a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business honors. There's a mouthful to get all the things the things I've been an Aggie obviously. This is my fifth year, but I've been an Aggie Pretty much since I was born my dad is class of eighty-six. So yes, there are pictures of me and my brother and sister all in like a geeky jerseys. My brother was wearing a football helmet all throughout our cows. Oh my gosh, Aggie football is like a national holiday in my home and I am no stranger to Texas A&M. So that is a little bit about me. Perfect. Well, yes, I'm curious with that. Yeah, you send you your whole family had gone here. Like we have a lot of students are like that in some students that are not but I'm curious what made you want to come here?
