The BC NDP introduced new legislation requiring that all strata corporations must now put aside 10% of their operating budget annually (an increase from the current mandatory 5%) to ensure that there is an adequate contingency reserve fund to protect strata owners and prevent steep special levies and higher insurance costs. So what does this mean to you? ...well very likely that your monthly strata fee will increase.
In today’s video, Surrey real estate specialist, Steve Karrasch of Macdonald Realty reviews a CBC article detailing the BC NDP’s new requirement for BC stratas and what that may mean for you if your strata has not been putting aside enough money annually into the contingency reserve fund, or if you are looking to purchase a strata property.
