A member of the Dravidian family of languages, Kannada has origins as far back as 230 BC. Kannada is one of 22 officially recognized Indian languages and is spoken by nearly 44 million people worldwide, the majority of whom reside in southern India. Native speakers are called “Kannadigas”. This video podcast series provides a basic foundation for the study of the Kannada alphasyllabary (alphabet), numerals, pronunciation, pronouns, and vocabulary (coming soon!). English translations and pronunciations are transliterated so as to allow for easy learning. The Kannada spoken is Bangalore Kannada, the most widely spoken of all types of Kannada.
