True peace is hard to come by, in the world and in our own lives. On Sunday in worship we explored the theme of Peace for our continuing Advent series. Shalom, the most lasting kind of peace is a restored and intimate relationship with the Father, won for us by Jesus.

All too often we look to the shifting winds of our lives to communicate to us whether God loves us or not. But Hebrews 1:2 tells us that “in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” Jesus Christ, in his life and death on the Cross, has spoken once and for all time that God loves you with an everlasting love. May you rejoice in that love today!

Proverbs gives us the choice between two paths: the way of Wisdom and the way of Folly. Wisdom, it tells us, is “more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” Folly, on the other hand, is “bitter wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.” So why would we ever choose folly? Because our Enemy makes the way of death look good with shiny packaging and promises of delight. In order to choose the way of Wisdom, we need to learn to recognize the seduction of sin.

Before we can make disciples, it is fairly obvious that we need to know what one is. I have spent most of my life complicating this thing way to much! Join me in this episode as I share what is means to be a disciple.

Peter, in 2 Peter 3:14, encourages us to “be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.” When it comes to our pursuit of holiness and our relationship with God, our tendency is to feel that Jesus is delayed in coming, so we might as well slack off. But we are called to work diligently today in the hope of Jesus’ imminent return.

As Tiff and I celebrated 10 years of marriage, it made me think about the Bride of Christ and the wonders of intimacy with Jesus!
