4oth Anniversary Permanent Collection Exhibit On exhibit September 15, 2018 through January 27, 2019 In 1978 in a room above Caffè Malvina in North Beach, the Museo Italo Americano first opened its doors to the public. In the forty years since, we have built a notable Permanent Collection, thanks to the generosity of many artists, collectors, and friends of the Museo. This exhibit will highlight over forty artists and more than seventy works of art from our Permanent Collection. The Museo Italo Americano is grateful to the Fleishhacker Foundation for helping to make this exhibit possible.

Zio Ziegler The Fourth Wall September 22, 2018 - November 11, 2018 Reception: September 22, 5:00 - 8:00 pm Presented by Carson Wealth The solo exhibition at MarinMOCA will include bold, new paintings and sculpture created by Zio Ziegler. Zio Ziegler’s work is inspired by his prodigious study of mythological, classical, and contemporary themes. His paintings are filled with intricate patterns, vivid color and energetic mark-making, accompanied by densely-descriptive subject matter. He moves fluidly through an array of styles from Abstract Expressionism, Cubism and Graffiti, creating a balance between chaos and clarity. His energy and intensity of method translate seamlessly across mediums, from paintings to sculpture to large-scale murals. The public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, September 22, 5:00-8:00pm. Enjoy live music on the lawn by progressive bluegrass string ensemble, The Good Bad Band, food trucks, entrees by Beso Bistro, and beer from local breweries.

Marin Museum of Contemporary Art connects art, community, and artistic expression. The Museum is a vibrant arts center located at Hamilton Field in Novato. MarinMoca offers free contemporary art exhibitions showcasing local, national, and international artist. MarinMOCA is located at 500 Palm Drive at the historic Hamilton Field in Novato, California. Over 55 artists have working studios at MarinMoca providing an atmosphere of creative energy in which contemporary art flourishes. The museum is free to the public but they do rely on donations, memberships, and corporate sponsorships to accomplish their mission to provide contemporary art, art education, and artistic opportunities for Marin County.

I find myself drawn to small…beautiful…elegant…accessible…inspiring places whether a museum…a music venue…a park. One of my favorite places which fits this criteria is the Museo Italo at San Francisco's Fort Mason. That is where I met Renato Sardo…his lecture was entitled…Piemonte the land of slow food. Renato was executive director for Slow Food International from 1999 to 2006…the slow food movement really began in Renatos’s hometown of Bra, Italy. Renato told me the focus of slow food international promote and defend real local food all over the world from industrialization. These days Renato is translating the slow food principles into reality via a company he founded…called Baia Pasta. René Magritte The Fifth Season May 19–October 28, 2018 (Text from SFMOMA) René Magritte (1898–1967) was one of the most intriguing painters associated with Surrealism, but he did not fully find his voice until after breaking ties with the movement. This exhibition, the first to look exclusively at Magritte’s late career, examines his most important bodies of work from the 1940s through the 1960s, and shows how they marked a fundamental shift in painting from Modernism to our own time. Featuring more than 70 artworks in nine immersive, thematic galleries, René Magritte: The Fifth Season explores how Magritte balanced irony and conviction, philosophy and fantasy, to illuminate the gaps between what we see and what we know. Together, the works reveal Magritte as an artist acutely attuned to the paradoxes at work within reality, and an enduring champion of the role of mystery in life and art.

On June 8, 1968, three days after the assassination of Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, his body was carried by a funeral train from New York City to Washington, D.C. for burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Just two months after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and five years after President John F. Kennedy’s death, Robert Kennedy’s passing united diverse communities grieving the loss of a politician who had represented hope for much of the nation during a tumultuous decade.
