Welcome! And thanks for listening. In this episode, I have the incredible opportunity to sit down with one of my lifelong mentors in both medicine and endurance running, Dr. Tim Noakes. I first discovered his work when I started running marathons in 1999, and his books completely shaped the way I thought about endurance training, hydration, and fueling. But Dr. Noakes' story is also a story of changing your mind when the evidence and your own experience tell you that something isn't working. We talk about his evolution from promoting high-carbohydrate fueling to questioning that approach, his own experience with type 2 diabetes and metabolic health, and the research that changed the way he thinks about endurance performance. We also dive into my own journey with insulin resistance, continuous glucose monitoring, low-carbohydrate endurance training, and what happened when I began experimenting with how I fueled my ultramarathons. This is a conversation about being willing to question what you've been taught, examine your own experience, and keep learning as the science evolves. Thanks as always for listening.Check out Dr. Noakes' foundation here: https://thenoakesfoundation.org/ If you would like to join us, check out the website at doctordulaney.comEmail me with questions at [email protected] water distillers: https://mypurewater.com/?sld=jdulaney. discount code: cleanwaterforsophie
