In this episode, we explored the topic of health, featuring Paul Reilly's inspiring journey from military service to his current achievements, showcasing the enduring nature of transformation. Throughout his transition to civilian life, Paul embraced learning and growth.
While leaving the military was straightforward for Paul, the subsequent path was challenging. Initially, he entered an industry—medical sales—that didn't align with his dreams. Despite this, he found enjoyment and success in the field.
After dedicating 20 years to his career, Paul embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 2012 by launching Active Rx franchises. Although the business model eventually collapsed, Paul chose to listen to his clients rather than give up. When Active Rx closed and his investment faltered, he rebranded.
This led to the creation of Midstrong! Through working with numerous clients, Paul identified their needs and devised a process to optimize their healthspan—the period of life during which one remains physically active and engaged.
As service members, we often prioritize essential aspects like jobs, living standards, and benefits when transitioning out of the military, but neglect self-care. It's crucial to address our healthspan to ensure more quality years with our families.
This episode was filled with insights on resilience, growth, and the pursuit of dreams. It was a truly exceptional discussion!

Where to start with this episode?!
Drew shares a treasure trove of insights on best practices for transitioning from the military to a civilian career.
Transitioning is an ongoing journey; as veterans, we're constantly learning, growing, achieving, adapting, and overcoming challenges. Drew highlights some key points in this episode that we wanted to emphasize upfront.
First, one of the most valuable pieces of advice from all the episodes: run towards something, not away from something. You might think there's little difference, or it's obvious, but it's surprising how many veterans face this dilemma. The outcome is significantly different, so ensure you conduct your PCCs and PCIs before making life-changing decisions!
Second, consider your civilian career like a river, not a ladder. What does Drew mean by that? There are many channels, each flowing to the ocean—some longer, some shorter, some rougher, some smoother. You can navigate through any of them, as there's no fixed path.
There's much more to explore in this episode, so tune in, take notes, and enjoy the conversation!

Here's another inspiring transition story from a remarkable veteran! Kathy shares her insights, which is quite fitting as she once disarmed bombs herself!
Kathy offers an in-depth look at her journey to where she is now. From mastering the roles of Navy diver and explosives expert, venturing into the world of stunt doubling, exploring start-ups, securing a dream role at Facebook, to returning to her fitness roots at CrossFit, LLC.
Highlights of this episode include:
Be Present and Engage: Kathy emphasizes the importance of being where your feet are and actively engaging with your surroundings. Her advice for early success in job hunting is to place yourself in situations where you can connect with key people. For her, this meant holding the dummy bag during stunt training, which has evolved into making at least two networking calls monthly.
Master Your Story: Perfect your elevator pitch—your story should captivate and persuade potential employers. To achieve this, personalize it and understand the needs of your conversation partner. The framework for your pitch: be intriguing, relevant, and concise (1-3 minutes).
Always Be Networking (ABN): Kathy underscores the importance of networking for military veterans. Our resumes might not always stand out for technical roles, so it's crucial to connect with gatekeepers. If you aim to be a data scientist, ensure you're speaking with someone from the data science team!
This episode is packed with wisdom and could have easily continued!

What a fantastic episode to start the new year! It's packed with insights to help you navigate the transition from military to civilian life.
In this episode, we delve into several topics:
How does John make tough decisions? Why leave the military at the 14/15-year mark, so close to a pension? Why choose the unconventional path in an Army career? Because John is always in pursuit of excitement!
Entrepreneurship is challenging, but John's experience as an Army football player gives him a competitive edge. In entrepreneurship, whether you like it or not, there's a scoreboard, and your company relies on you to lead the team to success.
Most importantly, smile! John's greatest advice in this conversation (though you might think otherwise) is to always keep smiling, enjoy life, and cherish those you share it with. The rest? It'll work itself out!
Thank you for tuning in, and enjoy the episode!

After our recent episode with Kyle Ryman, the concept of success and how we define it has been on my mind.
As service members preparing to transition from military to civilian life, we all aspire to be successful. However, we often fall into the trap of letting others' definitions of success shape our own.
Just like each transition journey from the military to civilian life, there is no one-size-fits-all path, and everyone's journey looks different!
Tune in and listen as I explore how we should begin to define success. While MDMP might evoke daunting thoughts for some, we'll actually look at conducting a Mission Analysis or a hasty one to evaluate the current intelligence of the new 'battlefield' we're entering.

It was a pleasure to discuss an alternative route from military service to the civilian world.
Kyle Ryman shared his journey, transitioning from an Army captain to earning a prestigious law degree, and now practicing law in the vibrant city of Austin.
Key takeaways from this episode:
If you're passionate about pursuing a different career path but face initial setbacks, don't lose hope. Kyle's first attempt at the LSAT didn't go well, but he stayed determined and excelled on his second try.
Throughout your military career, remain adaptable. Kyle's command experience revealed the significant impact of law, both in supporting and challenging soldiers. This insight directed his focus toward a career in law.
When pursuing higher education, prioritize the geographical area where you wish to establish yourself and aim for a top school there. Ivy League institutions are excellent, yet many law firms prefer candidates from local schools.
Thank you for listening!

It's always a fantastic experience to sit down with like-minded individuals and discuss our field!
In this amazing episode, we explored a range of topics—from the unique role of a Commander, distinct from a CEO, to being a TAC officer, instructing at USMA, and the art of strategic networking.
Zach shared invaluable insights:
Transitioning from the military is challenging, regardless of when you leave. Strategic networking is crucial, as we are only as strong as the networks we build.
Don't hesitate to take bold steps and be different; just because someone says it's the right path doesn't mean it truly is!
Community is essential! Version two of his book might soon launch on this very premise, underscoring the importance of community.

In this remarkable episode, we delve into a wealth of topics that ultimately convey a crucial message: don't give up!
Logan shares his journey after the Marine Corps, beginning with his pursuit of a career in personal fitness. He partnered with an investor to launch a gym, which he later sold to Redcon1.
Subsequently, he embarked on a new venture in the Fit-tech industry, which evolved into his current endeavor of creating terrain maps for businesses, helping them navigate the complex landscape of the business world.
Throughout the episode, we explore numerous insights, yet two key principles emerge as the driving force behind Logan's success: "crawl, walk, run" and "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast."

What an enlightening episode, packed with essential insights! If you're transitioning from active duty military service to civilian life as an entrepreneur, this episode is a must-listen.
Cody shares his journey out of the military, vividly illustrating the emotional highs and lows. He reveals that while separating from service may be straightforward, finding truly meaningful work is the real challenge.
Before diving into the episode notes, take a moment to join Cody's Facebook group for the launch of his book, "Service to CEO": https://m.facebook.com/groups/287853713887000/?ref=share
Episode notes:
Choosing a "traditional" career offers no more security than entrepreneurship. In fact, the opposite might be true, as entrepreneurship places your future firmly in your own hands.
Maximize your disability claims. You could qualify as a service-disabled veteran-owned business (SDVOSB), tapping into 32%, and soon 37%, of government contracts reserved for small businesses like yours.
Be cautious about who you consult regarding life after the military. Sadly, some individuals are out there to take advantage of veterans.
Lastly, becoming a successful entrepreneur requires two key skills: problem-solving and curiosity. Master these, and you'll never look back!
Thank you, Cody, for joining us. I look forward to more enlightening discussions!
