In the conclusion to our series, we examine the current state of HIV and Cuba through the eyes of interview participants. The Cuban volunteers who deliver messages of HIV prevention and education to gay people, women, and people with HIV usually share those identities with their audiences. This facilitates a shared enthusiasm that enables Cuba's Ministry of Public Health to reach many people with meager resources. Activists who work to raise awareness and improve quality of life for people with HIV struggle to overcome resource deprivation, cultural barriers and even resistance from within Cuba's government.
