Though I have an intermediate level of French, this podcast has opened up a new dimension in my learning journey. The range of topics is very interesting and informative, and the use of connectors between phrases and arguments is well-structured. I decided to start with Ep1 to build my new path of learning the beautiful French language. Highly recommend this podcast to all learners, whether you are an A- to C-level learner.

I started at episode 1 and am going forward from there. Every episode is interesting and I’m understanding more and more. News podcasts are so depressing and others are too childlike, but every one of Hugo’s is interesting and engaging. Absolutely love it!

InnerFrench is a key missing piece for me in learning French. News, movies, shows were too fast for me to understand and I was not progressing. InnerFrench built up my listening comprehension and broke the logjam. I recommend it highly.

I finished Alice Ayel’s Adult Stage, and found the content fairly boring. Plus I felt that I had enough French knowledge that I didn’t need video any more. This podcast is just the right level, and because it’s a podcast I can listen while doing other things. I start my day by reading and re-listening to the podcast from the day before. I look up new words, or ask Gemini to explain confusing constructions. Then later in the day I listen to the previous day’s podcast for the 3rd time, paying attention to the new words, then listen to the next podcast.

This is the best intermediate French podcasts I’ve found! Most are FAR too easy (greetings, vocabulary like “je m’appelle”) or FAR too difficult (like the news). I’m grateful to have found this.

I have learned so much French and about so many fascinating subjects from this podcast. Hugo speaks so clearly and conveys some very complex ideas so that they are easily understandable to my advanced beginner self. Every episode I listen to becomes a source of family dinner conversation! The only change i could wish for would be that the broadcast testimonials from listeners be a little shorter. But that is a small thing and overall it is amazing!

This is the first podcast I’ve found that I truly consistently enjoy for French listening comprehension. Started listening at A2 (after a year of learning) and I feel challenged while also getting a confidence boost. Surprised by how much I could follow right away. Hugo speaks at just the right pace—slow enough to follow but fast enough to feel like natural speech. And the topics/content are actually interesting. Hugo is a great French teacher!

I’m so happy to have found Inner French. After years of disappointing investments, this finally gives me hope to overcome the comprehension hurdle from intermediate to fluency. I enjoy and learn more than French from the interesting topics and, the slower paced delivery has me learning new words and expressions from context. It’s fun and encouraging - I’m hooked :) With that mountain of praise, I’ll add these 2 small stylistic nits for full disclosure: 1) nous is used instead of the more common and conversational on, and 2) questions are often in inverted (formal) format. I’m guessing that changes in more advanced episodes. Thank you and Kudos, Hugo!

The best intermediate level podcast !

If you’re at an A2 or B1 level, I can’t recommend this podcast enough to boost your confidence in French comprehension. Hugo does an incredible job speaking slowly, using common words, and taking the time to clearly explain any words the listener may not be familiar with. I’ve learned so much from this incredibly talented teacher and can’t praise his work enough. Thank you, Hugo.

I’ve studied French on and off for more than thirty years. I’ve lived in France and spend plenty of time there. In the past 6 months I’ve decided to invest seriously in my capabilities. I spend 5-10 hours per week with tutors and a big big challenge for me is improving my listening comprehension. I listen to FranceInfo during the day instead of NPR but I always feel like I’m only getting about 75%. InnerFrench has helped me immensely. I understand nearly all of tge episodes and it helps surface vocabulary that I can focus on. I don’t know of any magic bullet but I love 80% of the episode subjects and that keeps me engaged and interested. That is Hugo & teams true gift; they have an incredible instinct for what’s interesting and compelling. Then to skillfully make episodes at an intermediate level is une vrai merveille. My only regret is that there’s no way yet to contribute to their effort other than to purchase classes

I’ve been listening for awhile now and this podcast has been very useful. I use it to supplement an audio book that I’m using - French Today since there’s no grammar lessons with the podcast. I’ve found that it keeps me interested in learning as I’m still progressing. I’ve found that exposing myself to the language everyday is helping immensely. I began to learn French 3 years ago when I was 69 years old. I am now 72 and able to read novels, as long as they are not too complex. Hugo’s podcast is just perfect for my level of understanding at this time, and his topics are engaging. I listen to each one at least twice and am able to understand nearly everything without looking up anything in a dictionary.

This is a perfect podcast for those who studied French, maybe a while ago, and want to be able to speak and understand. I studied French in high school and college maybe 40 years ago and can understand 90% of these podcasts. Often, I become so engaged in the subject I forget I'm listening in French.

I have an intermediate level in French and have been watching and learning from Hugo’s podcast in recent months. What caught my attention about Hugo’s podcast is that not only he speaks clearly, and at a friendly pace, but also covers interesting topics and so I find the content very educational. Hugo is very eloquent and has a good positive vibe which makes the podcast even more enjoyable. I certainly recommend it!

I began learning French on my own via Duolingo a little over two years ago. It’s been a few months since I finished the Duolingo course and I have been looking for content that is somewhere between beginner stuff and stuff for native speakers. This podcast is at the perfect level. Hugo speaks slowly and clearly and gives French explanations when he uses a tricky word or phrase. I usually can understand most of the podcast just fine as long as my mind is focused. I will also say that with Duolingo, I was accustomed to ALWAYS seeing the written words, and I really needed to develop the listening skill without the crutch of written French. This podcast has really helped that. I think out of listening to over 30 episodes so far, I’ve only gone back and needed to read the transcript twice. But the transcript on the website is a really nice addition because you can click on the difficult words and get a definition.
