Not far from the geographical centre of Switzerland, nestling between the Pilatus and the Stanserhorn, lies the small Obwalden community Alpnach with its 6,000 inhabitants. The Alpnach military airbase with the Swiss Air Force’s Helicopter Centre of Competence contributes significantly to all three of the Swiss Armed Forces’ main objectives: peace promotion, supporting civilian authorities, and defending the country and its population in times of military threat.
