Maisy Cyr & Jordan Shaw
Shhh! We’re In Session! On this podcast, we will talk all about how to navigate mental health resources in your community and begin to unpack the negative stigma that surrounds mental health. We’ll also share different techniques and strategies often used by mental health professionals. We’ll answer your questions and address your concerns and help you better understand what goes on ”in session.”
Men’s Mental Health Month
In this episode, we dive into the complexities of men’s mental health exploring what it means to create space for vulnerability and emotional expression, while also acknowledging how the perpetuation of toxic masculinity fuels a broader culture of violence, misogyny, and emotional suppression. We discuss how these systems harm everyone, including men themselves, and why healing must go hand-in-hand with accountability. This conversation challenges the idea that vulnerability and masculinity are at odds and calls on men to not only seek support, but to actively work to dismantle the systems that keep everyone oppressed. Check out some additional resources regarding men's mental health here. And remember, if you are experiencing a mental health crisis please call: Maine Crisis Hotline at 1-888-568-1112 or the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988*

Social Media, Self Diagnosing, and Solidarity
Well listeners, we are back and maybe better than ever?  After some restructuring and re-evaluating, Jordan and Maisy are back in the game and ready to get into it.  While our episodes may be less frequent, our hope is that they'll actually be more consistent.  In this episode, we talk about how social media has created a rise in self diagnosing and the impact that can have on our sense of identity and wellbeing. We also share some insight into how to begin to connect with mental health resources, what to look for in a provider, and how to start to take control of your mental health. Despite going a little off the rails at times, we hope this episode shines a light on how to get the help you need from somewhere other than Tiktok 😬

Introduction to Trauma
Welcome to In Session! A new podcast brought to you by three professionals in the mental health field who want to normalize and de-stigmatize mental health while answering some questions you may have about accessing resources in your own community or on campus! In this series, we aren't going to dive into specific traumatic experiences, but we will be talking about the impact of trauma, how it manifests for different people, and how counseling can be helpful in beginning to unpack personal trauma.   In this episode, we introduce the idea of collective versus individual trauma and how people may cope with a traumatic event.  What does it mean to be "triggered" by something?  How can we manage when this happens? Maisy, Jordan, & Shelby explore what trauma is, how it impacts the body and mind, and how it’s treated. The trio also discuss mass trauma, PTSD, and protective behaviours.   **This podcast will frequently mention difficult topics related to mental health challenges, including self harm, suicidality, trauma, etc. so please do what you need to do to take care of yourself.  If you find yourself experiencing difficult feelings or can relate to anything mentioned in this podcast, please access local mental health resources or contact the Maine Crisis Hotline at 1-888-568-1112 or the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.** Access on campus Student Counseling Services here   **Disclaimer: Just a reminder, nothing in this podcast is intended to establish a therapist-patient relationship, to replace the services of a trained therapist, doctor or health professional, or otherwise to substitute for professional mental health, medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.   Information presented in this podcast represents the opinions of the hosts and guests.
