This is an amazing fiction podcast and also somehow really great to fall asleep to. I’m not sure how it is both at the same time, but check it out!

One of the best, most original podcasts currently available. Update March 2025: Give Ross $. Still smashingly good. Also, write a review. It’s a tragedy that this podcast has so few.

It was The Allusionist (Helen Zaltzman’s wonderful pod) that played Imaginary Advice’s incandescently brilliant S.E.I.N.F.I.E.L.D. episode, still one of the all-time best uses of this format. Been hooked ever since. We should all be so blessedly talented.

Wacky deliriums that enthrall using fantastic language, “sights” and sounds.

Pieces of a quizzical and creative young man’s life, during the beginning days of mankind’s extinction (1983-203?).

This podcast is always entertaining and enriching — better, it is sometimes sublime.

Supremely well edited and produced, what stands out above all is the quality of story telling and the host’s endearing humanity in the face of inscrutable and baffling mystery. A truly lovely quest for meaning.

I’m usually wary of fiction podcasts but this one consistently blows my mind.

Really liked the sex in the city piece. You captured our personal and collective modern madness and exposed it in such a fun conspiratorial ride.

It’s hard to find this level of creativity out there in the world and somehow Ross Sutherland is still a hidden gem. I should be overhearing conversations in line at the grocery store about how goddamn good Imaginary Advice episode #43 EXORCIST MARTIN COLE is. Stop arguing about pizza rolls and go listen to every episode you dummy.

This podcast is for the true hipsters of the world. Experimental, bohemian, intelligent comedy. Recommend to everyone when they ask for podcasts.

I have been listening to podcasts since 2007. In all the years I was constantly being told by all the hosts to rate the podcast and write a review, I’ve never done so. I was MOVED to write this review out of sheer joy. And I don’t think the host ever mentioned anything about writing a review. This has literally changed my mind about what podcasts are capable of. I am delirious thinking of the possibilities.

You are amazing

I don't listen to any other podcast like this and I wouldn't want to. Touching, surreal, funny poems and essays written and told by someone who accidentally threw his house keys into a baboon enclosure the same day his friend's book won a prize. Favourite episodes include Six House Parties, Duck Family in Abandoned Fairground, S.E.I.N.F.E.L.D. and, of course, The Sutherland Dunthorne Luck Index. If you're looking for something a bit different, try this.

Splendid and gorgeous show. Most episodes are haunting and a little strange. "HORSE FACTS", "S. E. I. N. F. E. L. D.", and "Re: The Moon" are particularly good. Very well done, even more so considering it's a one-person operation.

Hard to describe, except that I'm consistently excited to listen. Stories are dreamlike and strange, slices of life are humble and self-deprecating. I appreciate having gotten to hear every episode I have.

Unclassifiable. (Or maybe incessantly trying to classify things is getting, well, tired?) Just give this a listen. I am disappointed by many things. This was not one of them.

Did you know you’re in a poem right now? Do yourself a favor and check it out. Great stories, contemplation, art, and poetry. The essential element is the funny, witty, self-deprecating and entirely endearing host. Favorites include The Moon, The man who saw tomorrow, Nice my Selector, The Spa. Ross, you are a gold-plated snowdrift. Please don’t stop making art, out of the 25 podcasts I subscribe to this is the absolute best.

This is a simply amazing podcast. Ross, you’ve made art and I hope you never stop. I found this show via The Allusionist (also a treasure), and I’m hooked. There’s humor both dry and rich, there’s moments of beauty, and all throughout is the unique and creative voice who lets you peek through into his world. Get caught up, because it is going places.

This podcast is equal parts comedy and philosophy, made impactful with the gut punch of many well-written sentences. Ross truly is a poet and I’m so glad we discovered this show.

I found my way to this podcast because of its feature on The Allusionist, and I’m so glad I did! The level of writing here is top-notch, and Ross reads it so well, too. Excellent storytelling all around.

This is my new favorite storytelling podcast. It's daring and funny and really smart - full of little pleasures, humane, simply and elegantly produced, often beautiful, unlike anything else I've heard. It's always strange enough to knock me a bit off balance but never so strange that I don't want to stick with it while I try and get my bearings. It's like Love+Radio for fiction and poetry. I suggest starting with episode 45, S.E.I.N.F.E.L.D. - in which Ross Sutherland tries to train a neural net to do stand-up comedy. (Ross' description)

I’ve listened to every episode now and I’m blown away by how well Ross Sutherland writes. It’s entertaining and thought provoking and funny and beautiful.

I subscribed on a whim and listened to a few episodes to see what the podcast was about. After a few days, I had listened to almost all of the episodes. A wonderfully fun poetry podcast spanning modern art, writing, pop and counter-culture, relationships, and the supernatural. Ross Sutherland is a very talented artist with a lovely voice. Listen to a few episodes--you won't be disappointed!

I actually feel anger on my insides thinking about how this podcast is not nearly as known as it should be. The episodes are each unique works of art, which sounds pretentious but I don't know how else to describe it. If you like creative storytelling, or want a fresh perspective on poetry, or enjoy thinking about how language and media work on our brains, or like big, deep reflections on life expressed through humorous but surprisingly apt metaphors, you will count yourself lucky to have stumbled upon this gem. Here's hoping this show finds the audience it truly deserves.

Experimental, but really relaxed about it. A breath of fresh air. One of my favorites.

I love this podcast, a mixture of storytelling and poetry with a distinctly absurdist bent. It’s always intelligent, and sometimes also hilarious. Sutherland is an original, humane literary voice and I wish he’d come perform in NYC so I can see him live. For now, I’ll have to content myself with listening to him broadcast from the bottom of his wardrobe.
