I'm The Divider SUMMARY: The immigration issue inspires political action. It is consistently used as a wedge issue by politicians as leverage to divide people into groups. Sides are chosen based on the details of immigration such as: some migrant's inability to speak English, low wage labor, impact on hospitals, the criminal element, and race. I'm The Divider is a documentary that looks closely into the personalities of many sides of this issue in southern Arizona. On one side are the MInute Men, armed with guns and an unwavering philosophy of more stringent laws and increased prosecution. These men and women patrol the darkness of the desert. The main spokesman of the Minute Men Civil Defense Corps is Don Goldwater who has appeared on many television news networks, including FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC. Don's uncle is 70s politician Barry Goldwater, who is the subject of an HBO documentary called "Mr. Conservative, Goldwater on Goldwater." It was made Barry's grand-daughter, CC Goldwater. Another side of the issue suggests a different approach. In Tucson AZ, there is a Chiristian organization called Humane Borders. Rev Robin Hoover is its founder. Rev. Hoover is another well-known, outspoken voice in the immigration debate. He also has appeared on many television networks including CNN, FOX News, and television stations from Germany, Sweden and many other countries around the world. His organization provides water for the migrants who walk through the hot desert. The film crew goes with Humane Borders to one of the water tank sites. 2006 US Senate candidate Glen Ray also talks about solutions to the problem. He bases his opinion on his experience as a security chief in Iraq and at the US/Mexico border. The last part of the film in unfinished. The plan is to go on a Border Patrol ride along and see the patrol in action. We will hear first hand about the incidents at the border and find out just how many of the migrants are actually dangerous. And to round out the last portion of the film, we will talk to Congress people and Senators who are willing to discuss the origins of the immigration problem and how US foreign policies and the drugs laws affect illegal immigration.
