#35: Living Right in a Fallen World
Kaitlyn and Heather discuss what it means to "live a godly life." Ultimately, our goal as Christ followers is to aspire to live as Jesus lived. Some examples would be loving and serving others. A big word for this is: Sanctification. This simply means that we go through a process of growing in our faith journey.    For questions/comments, please email us! #34: Responding to Haters
Kaitlyn and Heather discuss how we can respond to insults and negativity from others. We may even receive backlash for our faith. A verse to keep in mind comes from John 15:18 where Jesus says: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."   How people treat us matters. We have the right to stand up for ourselves if we're being treated unfairly. God wants us to live free from the bondages of anxiety and hurt. Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."    Check it Out:   Kaitlyn mentions a couple YouTube videos that are helpful to watch if you find yourself being treated unkindly by others. #33: Overthinking - Changing the Narrative from Within
Kaitlyn and Heather's topic for this episode comes from last week's, "Check it Out" found in Peer Magazine. Together, they discuss what overthinking has looked like in their lives and provide tips on how to combat the negative spiral of caring too much of what others think of us.  Two quotes to go along with the topic include one from author and motivational speaker, Rachel Hollis: "Other people's opinion of you is none of your business." And the second is from Sylvia Plath that states: "My mother said the cure for thinking too much about yourself was helping somebody who was worse off than you."  A great way to get out of our own head is by serving others. We also have the opportunity to change the story we tell ourselves. Every day is a new opportunity to be who God has called us to be. We can choose to let go of the past by reminding ourselves of 2 Corinthians 5:17 "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation." Today's verse to meditate on is Ephesians 2:19-22, "Whenever you feel unloved, unimportant, or insecure, remember to whom you belong to." Kaitlyn shares about how her personal style is evolving and with that, a more modest outlook on swimwear. Heather and Kaitlyn also discuss the history of the bikini that was created in 1946 by Louis Reard.   Coming from a faith perspective, it's noted that Jesus himself was plain looking and didn't want to draw attention to himself. #29: When Anxiety Turns to Anger
Heather and Major Tom discuss how anger can be an emotional response to anxiety. Often times we don't want to acknowledge what it really is that's causing us to feel a certain way. But it's a process to learn about what triggers our anxiety.  The Bible tells us not to worry. God wants us to cast our cares on Him.  The antidote to worry is Jesus.

#27: Handling Changes & Transitions
Heather and special guest, Major Tom Grace, discuss how life changes and transitions can affect us. Growing up in the Salvation Army, Major Tom recalls moving 13 times before graduating high school. But that doesn't mean that change gets easier. He shares the season he is currently going through and how he's processing his upcoming move. While change is never easy, he explains, "Life change is often times something that we're not prepared for, and so there needs to be a solid foundation for our lives, and that's where God comes in."   Verse: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” -Deuteronomy  31:6   Check it Out: How to practice spiritual discipline https://peermag.org/articles/listen-learn-practice/  Until next time, Ignite your life!

#26: Self Esteem: Seeing Yourself as God Sees You
Kaitlyn and Heather discuss their experiences with what a healthy self-esteem means. They review their individual results after taking a quiz that reflects on self-esteem questions.  Take the quiz by following the link here: https://www.templateroller.com/template/90820/self-esteem-assessment-worksheet.html Kaitlyn shares her personal struggle of wanting to be excepted by others which has lead to a people-pleasing mentality. While many of our peers avoid being vulnerable, it's important to understand that everyone has struggled in their own way with self-image. How can we view ourselves how God sees us though? Genesis 1:7 reminds us that we are made in God's own image. No matter what others may think of us, what ultimately matters is how God sees us.  Check it Out: Visit our Community Center Facebook page to read Kaitlyn's post titled, "Remember Who & Whose You Are" https://www.facebook.com/SalvationArmyCommunityCenter/?ref=pages_you_manage Thanks for listening and until next time, Ignite your life!
