Meet four people who changed my life between the first two full moons of 2020: Lucrecia, Juan, Pedro, and Málini.

'i am here / estoy nibi' is a long time coming and a very short time in the making. I've been thinking and talking and dreaming about making a podcast for years, like five whole years! And on a recent morning, an idea came to me to let go of the perfection and complexity and just write something, record something and share it. So the next day, I sat down to write. I recorded my voice on my phone and channeled my journalism school audio editing skills to mix it. It's not perfect — nothing is — but it's me. It's about being here — far from where I was four months ago — doing a thing, on a journey to start a life in a new country. I blend the two languages I speak and am striving to speak more, Spanish and Yoruba. 'estoy' means 'i am' in Spanish and 'nibi' means 'here' in Yoruba. This is the first dispatch that sets the scene of how I got here to Mexico City. I don't know what will come next, but whatever it is, I'll be here for it and hope you will be too.
