Maria Conlon is recharged after having a nice 4th of July and downtime over the weekend. I never knew she went vegan for a while and currently is on that pescatarian diet which consists of fish and fresh vegetables.
We talk about the WNBA All Star weekend coming up and my feeling of the league not doing enough to honor Diana Taurasi in her final year. D is basically the Michael Jordan of women's basketball; they better give her a sendoff.
Maria shares her midseason report on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese improving as rookies. A shake up with the Connecticut Sun back on top of the East while NY struggled.
In the west, Maria won't sleep on the Ace's, or Sky, I like Minnesota. It will be a tremendous All Star weekend, especially watching the Olympian's compete, along with a surprise planned she won't tell me about!

Conversations With Cully And Conlon returns with some fire power. The BEST podcast Host in the UNIVERSE Steve Cully and his amazing co-host Maria Conlon, fresh off a vacation to Mexico are back with a new show.
Maria secured an incredible special guest, former UConn Womens basketball teammate and legend, Ashley Battle. It has been a while since I have been in the presence of two legends who won multiple national championships, AB was tough, physical, talented and also played in the WNBA
Ashley now works as a scout for the Boston Celtics, while also doing commentary for the Connecticut Sun. We talk about the run of the Celtics and winning the NBA championship, AB will have another ring to add to her collection.
Coaching, and why the Lakers job has not been easy to fill. We talk about the WNBA and who will emerge as the top team, along with who will be a sleeper. It was awesome having AB on, she is one of the nicest, kindest, sweetest people and always went out of her way to be nice to me. A fantastic episode you do not want to miss!

Conversations with Cully and Conlon is back with a new episode. The BEST podcast host in the UNIVERSE and UConn Womens Basketball legend Maria Conlon discuss several topics from the WNBA and Maria answers listeners questions.
We start by talking about Caitlin Clark and the flagrant foul called on Angel Reese. Maria shares her thoughts on the incident and believes CC is showing maturity. I ask about Diana Taurasi, Maria's good friend, who just broke Michael Jordans record for her number of scoring 40-point games at 42 years young. It should be receiving more attention than it is getting.
Maria goes into her analysis of the WBNA, talking about the Connecticut Sun and NY Liberty being by far the top contenders. We finish the show with Maria answering questions from our listeners.

Maria and I talk about Dan Hurley deciding to stay with UConn. Going to the Lakers may not have been the right fit and UConn Men's Basketball having a 3 peat for the first time since the 70's is an incredible opportunity.
We also talk Caitlin Clark being left off the Olympic team and her reaction. Maria has no idea who would be removed from that roster to give CC a spot. A great conversation since Coach Hurley wants to go to the NBA eventually, when does that happen? CC is bringing a large fan base to the WNBA but she needs guidance when she does interviews.

Maria and I discuss the status of the WBNA. The flagrant foul situation on Caitlin Clark and Stephen A Smiths reaction to it. Along with the league and how they are handling their new rookie. We talk about veterans like Diana Taurasi scoring 31 points with seven 3 pointers barely getting recognized. Maria takes questions from her listeners at the end.

UConn women's basketball legend Maria Conlon and Husky talk guest Erika Higgins team up for a fantastic episode. They have been friends for years and it was definitely an interesting conversation!
The beautiful blonde dynamic duo discussed a lot of hot topics. From raising their kids to be respectful, hardworking, and involved in sports. How they manage juggling successful careers and being mom's while making time to have with their significant others.
Maria and Erika share incidents of bullying. What bullying was like for them growing up to how it has evolved now adding social media to the mix. They handle it by talking to their children and believe it's the parent's responsibility to control the kids more than putting it on the schools.
We talk about women's rights and men attempting to control them. Politics, why the left and right refuse to meet in the middle. Not being excited about either presidential candidate.
Finishing the show, Maria evaluates her favorite rookie Caitlin Clark and her record game last night scoring 30 points with 5 rebounds. Erika and Maria both feel the league is pushing her to be the new face of the WNBA.
Maria doesn't think she is close to being a generational talent yet. Erika was happy when Iowa lost to South Carolina because CC just complains too much. The girls were a pleasure to talk with and offer a unique perspective. An episode you do not want to miss!

We talk about the weekend tournament. Very proud of her daughter playing with tremendous effort, great defense and facilitates on offense. Maria is happy she does anything asked of her.
We received a lot of relationship feedback for Maria, obviously not myself. From her worst first date to thoughts on marriage counseling, Maria shares her views to answer questions from our listeners.

Maria returns from a long road trip in Ohio after a basketball tournament with her daughter. She talks about how difficult it can be to watch from the stands. As a former UConn legend who played professionally, coaches and being a parent, you definitely see the bigger picture
From what the team is doing offensively and defensively, to the officials, I can't imagine being a parent in that situation. Her 12-year-old daughter has taken after her mother having intensity. Maria is thrilled to see she give exceptional effort and plays tough defense. It has been rewarding to see the improvement over the last year and see she continues to want to get better.
We talk about relationships and the difficulty in finding a partner. I mention, lies, broken promises, the hurt caused grows severely damaging. There have been plenty of times where I would rather climb Mount Rushmore and lie, instead of standing on the ground being truthful. Maria shares building a friendship and developing an emotional connection is most important. Feelings, attraction, love can all come from taking time to learn about each other, finishing each other's sentences.
We take people for granted. We find out the hard way when that person is gone how much you appreciate them. Having love makes the biggest difference, Maria stresses honest communication and when find a special partner, hold on as hard as you can. I said everyone has a breaking point, some things you can't come back from and continuing to try becomes selfish. A great conversation about relationships and I learned from Maria's insight. She has 8 jobs, a restaurant, and is a devoted parent, when she runs for office, I am applying to be her campaign manager!

Our inaugural episode of Conversations with Cully and Conlon start off with a bang. UConn legend Maria Conlon joins Best Podcast Host in the UNIVERSE Steve Cully starting off with a bang.
Maria questions why there was hate for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. I had to admit that a close friend of mine was also a Swifty, much like Maria, I felt well versed on the subject. Admittingly, I was jealous because New Heights podcast was a huge success, and I didn't like all the attention they were receiving.
I realized it was my own insecurities that was the source of contention. Maria agreed that social media can be toxic, and some people don't like witnessing others share happiness or joy. After watching a few games, I truly believed Taylor Swift was a huge football fan and was going out of her way to support Travis. It was not her fault TV camera's showed her as often as they did, but at least the networks pulled back and allowed her to be a fan.
We agreed while the NFL generated enormous revenue off the couple, the hate was beyond unjustified. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and attack a couple for no reason other than they are happily in love. I admit being guilty of having a negative perspective early on simply being cantankerous and jealous. Taylor Swift is a special person, one of the most talented artists in the world, a lover of football, and devoted to Travis for showing up each week despite unruly fans to support her person.
As a coach, Maria shares how she meets with players, along with parents to educate and discuss social media. Anything posted can follow you forever, it can affect or make a difference in going to college or getting a job. Maria loves when players on other teams will talk trash and give her bulletin board material to fire her girls up.
We finish talking some NBA and how exciting the season is with the Knicks winning. Catelin Clark impressed Maria and she has brought new eyes to the game. Womens sports are on fire and its exciting to see. We discuss the Britney Griener situation and how it was handled. First show coming out hot! Conversations with Cully and Conlon pulls no punches and don't miss our first episode of hot takes, with more to come!
