Humans on the Verge
Humans on the Verge
Kelly Carlin-McCall
Humans on the Verge with Kelly Carlin-McCall explores how individuals and American culture change, evolve, move from one stage of life, or one state of mind, to another.  It is born from Kelly’s curiosity about the strange and miraculous opportunity to be conscious, sentient beings, aka humans, in these interesting times we find ourselves in at the beginning of the 21st century. Each month two episodes will drop. The first one will be a conversation with someone from the world of psychology, philosophy, politics, spirituality, science, the arts,or entertainment industry to unpack their life experiences and ideas about how culture and humans change. Then in the second episode she’ll build on that conversation by examining the topic through her own life, and those she guides and teaches in her online Humans on the Verge Community, and then offer to the listener a few thoughts for them to ponder on their own. Theme song: "In the Name of Love" by Kenny Rankin. Used with permission. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Kelly's Ponderama Episode - The Political Shadow
In this episode, Kelly unpacks the developmental politics concepts from her conversation with her guest in episode three - Steve McIntosh, the author of Developmental Politics. With the chaos of the moment we are living in, she points all of to stay focused on what we can control while remaining vigilant about what we need to protect. And because the personal, and now the collective shadow, has been brought forward in her first few episodes, she talks about how essential it is for all of us to look within to do our shadow work around our own tribalism. This is the work of humanity to do if we are to move forward differently. If these days you feel like a Human on the Verge and are wondering how to stay focused on living a meaningful/purposeful life in a world that borders on a shit show? Conversation with Steve McIntosh
My guest today, Steve McIntosh, has a way of looking at what looks like the current chaotic mess of American Politics and unpacking it so that you can actually understand what the hell is going on in this country.  If you too are confused, frustrated and in disbelief, my and Steve’s hope is that we can give you a very unique, and for me a satisfying big picture perspective.  On my former podcast, Waking from the American Dream, I had Steve and few other folks on whose work is deeply informed by what is called Integral Philosophy. It is something I’ve been studying and practicing myself for about 20 years. I’m excited to bring this way of seeing humanities cultural evolution to you.  Steve McIntosh is a Developmental Philosopher who focuses on the evolution of consciousness and culture. He is founder of the nonprofit organization the Institute for Cultural Evolution and his latest book, published in 2020, is called Developmental Politics: How America Can Grow Into a Better Version of Itself not only thoroughly explains why we are so gridlocked as a nation, but offers a very unique path to help us move above and beyond it.  Steve, welcome and I am so excited to have you on today.Thank you for scrolling down to this part, not everyone gets here. Kelly's Ponderama Episode - The Shadow
Kelly’s Ponderama episode - The ShadowIn this month’s Ponderama, I take the themes from my conversation with Genpo Roshi in my last episode (ep.1), and unpack the concept of the psychological shadow, what lives in my personal shadow, and how you can work with yours. And if you are curious about working on your personal shadow, I recommend Genpo Roshi’s Big Mind or the book Internal Family Systems by Richard Schwartz. And of course, as you know, I do this work with clients too, in my courses and coaching. Interested in joining my community The Village? Conversation with Genpo Roshi
My first guest is Genpo Roshi. The reason I wanted to have Roshi as a guest today is twofold - he was my first guest of my old podcast Waking from the American Dream - I love full circle things like that, but also I wanted my first three guests to be folks that have helped me build the foundation of my world view and my daily practice for the last twenty years. Genpo Roshi was born in California as Dennis Paul Merzel, began studying Zen Buddhism in 1973 with renowned Japanese Zen Master Taizan Maezumi Roshi at the LA Zen Center. He is known for his development of the Big Mind process, a method that combines Zen practice with a Western psychological process called Voice Dialogue, a form of shadow work that facilitates profound personal transformation and insight. You can find him and his work at:https://bigmind.org/Thank you for scrolling down to this part, not everyone gets here.
