In this episode of 'How was your day?' the podcast, we sit down with one of the most driven individuals trying to make a positive change in the world of art. Meet Sophie Barfod.
Sophie is the founder of SΦFI Studios, a multidisciplinary art house aimed at empowering artists and creating a market for emerging talent. Sophie's journey to founding SΦFI Studios was influenced by a combination of her educational background, professional experiences, and personal growth.
Before founding SΦFI Studios, Sophie studied business economics with a focus on data science. She then ventured into consulting and corporate strategy roles, which exposed her to the corporate world but left her feeling unfulfilled creatively. Despite excelling in mathematics and logical fields, Sophie realized her true passion lay in the arts and creativity.
Sophie's pivotal moment came during a trip to South America, where she immersed herself in the vibrant art scene and witnessed the transformative power of art in communities affected by conflict and oppression. This experience ignited Sophie's passion for empowering artists and leveraging art as a tool for social change.
Sophie's observations of the art industry, both in South America and globally, led her to identify systemic issues, such as the dominance of auction houses and galleries, which limit opportunities for emerging artists. She believes in challenging these norms and creating a more inclusive and accessible art market.
So what is the goal for SΦFI Studios you ask? It has multiple layers, she aims to:
1. Empower artists to pursue their passion and create meaningful work.
2. Create a market for emerging talent and challenge the dominance of traditional art institutions.
3. Foster a community where artists can collaborate, innovate, and thrive.
4. Use art as a vehicle for social change and cultural dialogue.
Want tips on how to become the artist you have always dreamed of becoming? They reflect her belief in the importance of experimentation, perseverance, and authenticity:
1. Find your process: Discovering your unique creative process is essential for developing your artistic style and voice.
2. Embrace imperfection: Don't be afraid to make mistakes or produce imperfect work. Growth and improvement come through practice and iteration.
3. Make more work: Consistent practice and production are key to honing your skills and developing as an artist.
4. Join a supportive community: Surround yourself with fellow artists who can offer support, feedback, and inspiration.
5. Pursue your passion: Above all, follow your passion and stay true to yourself as an artist.
Sophie's journey from the corporate world to founding Sophie Studios reflects her commitment to living authentically and making a positive impact through art. Her vision for SΦFI Studios is not only to create a successful business but also to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive artistic community that empowers artists to thrive.
