I discovered Lani and what would become chipperish media in a difficult period in my life. Listening to conversations about BTVS kindled a very weak flame of my passion for storytelling. I’ve only dipped my toes into the ocean of the “How Story Works” podcast and I can already tell that is going to be an educational and joyous ride. In the words of Buffy, “I want the fire back.”

I was working on a graphic novel and was listening to several different podcasts on writing or writers when i happened upon How Story Works... Lani gives more useful information and tools for writing in a more organized manner than any other. Along with a nice sense of humor, Lani has created (and is creating) a great podcast for anyone creating stories of any kind.

This podcast is full of useful lessons for aspiring writers. LDR manages to be both clear and entertaining as she offers practical ways to improve writing. I’ve had breakthroughs in my own writing and ideas for new stories come to me simply by listening.

Lani breaks down everything you need to understand storytelling into bite sized lessons. Clear and concise. Funny. This is a free college course in how to write fiction.

This podcast is wonderful! Perfect for writers who want to improve their craft or people who just love analyzing stories and trying to figure out what makes them work and not work. Honestly, Lani's teachings have completely changed the way I think about all forms of narrative. And she's not kidding when she says college level. There are diagrams and everthing.

You might not think a podcast on narrative theory applies to you, but it ABSOLUTELY does! If you consume ANY art or media, Lani's smart, fun approach to narrative theory will turn you into a better, more insightful fan.

Far and away the best podcast I've ever listened to about story. Lani does an incredible job of breaking down and explaining the concepts in a way that is always engaging and fun. Other writing/story podcasts have often been difficult to follow or understand, but this one is just about perfect.

There's a ton of writing advice out there, a lot of it not worth the time. This is the only podcast you need. It's concise and flat out fun. I've listened to each episode multiple times and still want more.

It takes a lot of knowledge to make substantive episodes under 10 minutes, and Lani is definitely qualified! Whether you're new to fiction or a seasoned writer, this podcast will be a delightful reminder of what we should focus on when creating great stories!

I was not listening to this as it seems geared to writers. However, Twitter told me I should be listening and Twitter was right. Thank you for making such an insightful podcast that is accessible to the average person.

Lani is thoughtful and smart and funny. I'm sure these mini-classes on story will be useful to any creative writer, but I enjoy them simply as an avid reader and listener and watcher of all kinds of stories.
