Mary and Martha display two ways of practicing Christianity- active religion and contemplative religion. The actions of Mary reveals a heart that longed for truth and eternal things. This would not be taken away from her. Her contemplation of God's eternal truths will culminate in the beauty of heaven described in this sermon.

People often live as if God was on trial when in reality, we are subject to his judgment. The Christian life has requirements that must be fulfilled from the heart. Among God's expectations for his children is baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Serving others is important, but it is essential in God's eyes that we serve out of love. There are various motivating factors for serving others, but the biblical standard is serving through love.

Moses' last words to the nation of Israel is a blessing despite all the years of hardships experienced while leading them to the Promised Land. Verse 33-3 gives five reasons why we can trust in the God who calls us to serve him.

God is zealous for himself and we should therefore be zealous to serve him. Serving God requires that our love be sincere and that we outdo each other in honoring one another.

The instructions given to Timothy as a pastor are appropriate virtues for all Christians. Kindness keeps us from quarrelling, compels us to correct our opponents gently, makes us convictionally kind and compassionate enough to desire the repentance and restoration of our opposers.
