I have been listening to true crime podcast for many many years now. I love finding new ones and I’m often impressed but this one is one of the best because she really does her research and is very sensitive to the victims and everything is well thought out well put together and just amazing. I highly recommend this one.

I like the show but when Laurie keeps talking over testimony, it's driving me crazy. Also get your assistant, a microphone or stop letting her participate in episodes - you can't hear her and it's annoying.

The great Dr. Matthias has so many loooong pauses of I assume him gathering his thoughts that I think I’ve lost my internet connection. I wish it would stop.

Jesus! You just go into all the details of that poor girls assault? This seems exploitatively sensationalist. And on top of that, it was SO explicit and you gave no warning?!?! I mean, as a survivor of CSA I do NOT feel safe listening to your podcast. You have truly sent me into a tailspin. You went into TOO MUCH DETAIL ABOUT THE ASSAULTS. I mean, you actually DESCRIBED THE SA OF A CHILD. STOP.

I just want to comment on having a lock on the outside of a bedroom door. My daughter when she was little was an escape artist. She very quickly learned to climb out of her crib at 8 months old. Then her baby gate. Then we bought an extra tall gate and within days she climbed that. We lived near a busy street with a creek behind and near the front of our home. We put locks high up on our outside doors. We also had a friends baby die cause she escaped and drowned in the neighbors pond within minutes. I was going out of my mind with worry. So at night we would lock the outside of her bedroom door so I would have peace of mind she was ok. I’m also a very light sleeper so I do usually hear things. So if she was crying I would go get her. It wasn’t abuse it was for her safety. I agree that sexual abuse is terrible but I would not be so harsh to judge someone for having a lock on the outside of a door unless there was other evidence and learning the reasons why.

I am interested in the case and the podcast, I think the host becomes side tracked and doesn’t stick to the case and topic. The episodes end up long because of so much extra input.

I actually find most of the stories they cover interesting so I’m grateful for the podcast. I just can’t give higher than a 3 until she stops the constant repeating. She repeats herself over and over in the same 2 minutes! And the amount of “you know”. “You know”. You know” please! Make it stop! I want to enjoy the information but I’m getting close to finding another podcast. If you’re a public speaker, please edit those.

After watching Lauren’s unhinged 9hr live on YouTube a few months ago, I went down a rabbit hole and realized she’s basically a mean girl who was trying to use the law and law enforcement in a petty argument. Dr John needs to get her help. She’s lost all credibility in my eyes.

I used to really like this podcast and started listening during the Daybell trials. There were some great episodes and interviews back then. I started losing interest when those trials wrapped, and was put off by their stances on some future trials they covered. The final straw came when there was the fake 9 hour stalker video. Since then, I have learned they trash talk other creators and victim family members behind their backs. I can’t support a channel like that in good conscience. There are other great podcasts out there I now prefer after learning more about who these people are when the camera is off.

I'm blown away by the case presentation & thoughtful analysis. I just finished one of the episodes on the Reiner family murder. It was captivating! The depth and meaning added in portraying the complicated person and possible family dynamic humanized a really horrific & sensationalized event. It illustrates the importance of intimacy, connection and belonging & bolsters the fact that these are the foundations of feeling right about ourselves & the world. Really just beautiful! Thank you!

I enjoy this podcasts for the up to date reporting on true crime events that are current and breaking. I do enjoy Dr. John’s profession opinions, however, at times they tend to drag on and become a little monotonous. I feel like if they were a little more concise, it would much more efficient and still informative.

Brilliant reporting on crime and underlying causes. Lauren and John are a dynamic team who breakdown and examine every aspect of criminal cases in the news.

I wrote the below review years ago. I am an early and long time listener and Patreon member. The podcast has moved from thoughtful, evidence-based discussion from both Lauren and John to almost solely brief updates about “breaking news.” The vibe has changed from considered and carefully thought out to breathless and pearl-clutching. I’m done with this podcast. This was my favorite podcast for such a long time :( Everyone has something to say about true crime - but the inundated genre, this podcast really shines , where nearly everything that is discussed is a new, different, and evidence-based angle that I had never considered. Please, if you have the time, keep this podcast up! The aspirations at the end of episodes have kept me going in a dark time.

I can’t support a creator who silences and attacks the surviving family members. Is this how you advocate for “your” victims? A little honesty and humility would go a long way, but you don’t seem to have the emotional intelligence to do that.

This is a very informative true crime podcast grounded in compassionate, intelligent, engaging journalism along with psychoeducation on mental health of perpetrators and victims, and human nature in general. It has been helpful to understanding some of my difficult cases. The only true crime podcast that I listen to.

I only recently found your podcast and I have to thank you both, but particularly Dr John for the thoughtful conversations you are having. Listening to the discussion of enmeshed families and generational abuse is helping me make sense of my own family and trauma. I really can’t thank you enough for helping me make sense of things.

this podcast adds nothing of value to conversations regarding true crime. the hosts hope you won’t look into things yourself, and certainly hope you never look into them either. i suggest looking into them, they are heavily prosecution-biased in every case and never ask important questions (as an actual journalist would do). the husband is unethical as a psychologist as he loves to give people diagnoses that he has never met or evaluated. nothing he says is revolutionary or even gives any insight into cases. seriously, there are a million true crime podcasts out there, don’t waste your time with this slop.

These 2 are lying grifters! “Dr.” John who supposedly testified in 100s of high profile fed cases LIES and offers his opinions to PRED o files who are looking to take time off of their sentences! These 2 worm their way in with families and then say TERRIBLE things about them to others! These 2 tried to put a MOM in JAIL and wasted police resources when this mom made their disgusting behaviors public! “Hella” Excited Utterance has ALL their SHADY texts and LIES. The good “doctor” is scrubbing the internet of his BS and Princeton doesn’t even have the scholarship he claims to have won! These 2 are dangerous and resort to vile behavior when pressed with the truth!

The hosts are obviously seasoned professionals in reporting and forensic psychology. Lauren and John are like the dream team in true crime reporting and analysis. I love Lauren’s attention to detail as well as the thoroughness of her approach. Being an LCSW the psychological perspective that John brings is something I really appreciate. Combining these two powerhouses in their field to the true crime community has created something wonderful and unique. Hidden True Crime has made me into a bonified true crime junkie!

I normally do not leave reviews but reading the hateful reviews on here compelled me to post. What is wrong with you that you would go on someone’s business review page and spew hate? If you use the precious time we have on this earth to destroy others you really need to stop looking at others and find out why you feel the need to tear others down. If you don’t like it move on like a grown up! There are bucket fillers and bucket dippers in life- sadly many adults are dippers and need to tend to their own garden. I do not know about or care about the craziness- and I really have enjoyed this podcast for years. I have enjoyed Lauren and John’s discussions and feel she is very empathetic to the victims. I hate to hear grown women acting ugly. Makes me sick and shows just how hatefulness spreads like disease. Many of these people need to crawl back to their miserable lives if they find pleasure in hurting others. How many of you have never said something critical of a friend to another friend? Get over yourselves! People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. And if it is true how does doing the same thing make you better? It doesn’t. And if she was doing this I would take up for the other person too. Lauren- don’t read this mess, stop giving them air time, and keep being great!

I recently found your podcast and I do enjoy the stories. I however, lose focus on the story when you mispronounce so many words. Mostly it sounds pretentious.

Ok update*** I’ve been caught up on the DRAMA and that’s exactly what it is. Lauren has lost all credibility imo her 9hr cry fest over a falling out and internet tea being spilled acting like she’s being stalked by an actually scary person is nothing short of deranged. I can’t listen to her anymore. She and her husband are weird. Apparently she’s not familiar with the Internet. Sad, I like this podcast but I’ll never see/hear her the same. Oh btw her acting like she and her fake case should be protected from cameras and reporting in the courtroom is the most ironic thing I’ve heard this year it’s so bizarre!!! I’m sorry, but he needs to take some story telling classes or something. He is SO boring it takes him forever to make the most obvious point. The Brad Pitt stuff was so weird and took sooooo long… 41 minutes in that particular episode I don’t understand where it’s even going, how it’s relevant. Lauren started off by saying she was dealing with a stalking situation and she was going to tell her own story and he’s been going on and on about Brad Pitt the entire time. He’s not good podcast material he seems nice, but I can’t listen to anymore episodes with him. I just can’t…. Btw now he’s talking about going on a moral crusade, what are they even referring to? I don’t understand what this episode is even about!?!? What’s going on???

I rarely leave reviews, but after watching Lauren’s recent live on YouTube about the stalking situation, I felt compelled to provide some support. So yeah, the 9 hour live was a little unhinged, but that doesn’t change the fact that Lauren and Dr. John make a great podcasting team, and no one deserves to be bullied the way Lauren has. Who hasn’t sent a text to someone complaining about a mutual? This isn’t diabolical behavior; it’s human nature. Lauren’s biggest mistake was to trust people too quickly. I truly hope all of this boils over soon so they can get back to doing what they do best, investigating true crime and providing detailed information on ongoing cases. Keep up the good work, you two!

I’m just a podcast listener, but when I went on you tube after hearing about this stalking issue, I was truly taken aback by Lauren! She reminds me of a model I used to work with that was so incredibly kind. I know John is the professional when it comes to psychology(and I loved everything he had to say!) but sometimes it just boils down to plain old JEALOUSY. Keep doing what y’all are doing! This show has a level of professionalism that boosts it above other podcasts- Lauren is an experienced journalist and it shows. And her husband, Dr. John, holds a PhD in Psychology, with a background in criminal psychology, so he brings a very interesting psychological dimension to the discussion. I first heard Lauren on Mormon Stories, and her LDS background adds another interesting angle, especially when covering stories connected to the church, such as Ruby Franke, Lori Daybell, etc.
