The IRS audits Black Taxpayers at a Higher Rate?
In this review, we discuss our interview with WTVD ABC 11 in Durham regarding a Stanford-based study that indicated black taxpayers are audited at a higher rate than other groups. Our position is that the increased audits are caused by less scrupulous tax preparers, creating a subculture in the black community that focuses on lower-income taxpayers. We finish the episode discussing how intangible items are looked upon in the community and how that creates road bumps to economic success.

How Supporting Black-Owned Businesses Can Create Positive Change.
Welcome to this episode of Heyward CPA Live, where we invited C.J. Broderick of the Greater Durham Black Chamber of Commerce to discuss how supporting black-owned businesses can create positive change in our communities. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to support and uplift black-owned businesses as a means of promoting economic empowerment and combating systemic racism. Research shows that when consumers choose to support black-owned businesses, they are not only contributing to the economic success of those businesses but also creating a ripple effect in their communities. Here are some key ways supporting black-owned businesses can create positive change: Job Creation: Supporting black-owned businesses can lead to job creation and employment opportunities within the black community. As these businesses grow and thrive, they may need to hire more employees, which can help to reduce unemployment rates in these communities. Wealth Creation: Supporting black-owned businesses can also help to create wealth within the black community. When these businesses succeed, they can generate profits and revenues that can be reinvested in the community, creating more economic growth and prosperity opportunities. Community Development: Black-owned businesses often have a deep connection to the communities in which they operate. When consumers support these businesses, they are helping to foster community development and investment. For example, a black-owned grocery store may provide fresh food options and help to combat food deserts in low-income areas. Cultural Preservation: Black-owned businesses often reflect the black community's unique cultural heritage and traditions. By supporting these businesses, consumers are helping to preserve and promote this cultural heritage, which can lead to greater appreciation and understanding of black culture.  Social Justice: Supporting black-owned businesses can contribute to broader social justice efforts. When consumers spend their money at these businesses, they make a statement about the importance of economic empowerment and fighting systemic racism. By choosing to support these businesses, consumers are not only contributing to economic growth and job creation but also promoting cultural preservation, community development, and social justice. So, let's all commit to supporting black-owned businesses and creating a brighter future for all.  For more, visit
