Hello, old friend! Are we still friends? Are we more? Where's this going? Maybe we shouldn't put labels on it yet.
HYMI is back with Ashley Opstad, the Artistic Director of The Improv Space in Westwood! If you go to UCLA, you live within walking distance of one of the best comedy theaters in LA! You're also probably really smart!
Ashley and I sat down and talked about everything from improv, balancing a corporate job with comedy, starting an improv theater, starting a family, starting an improv team, softball and my all-time favorite improv form, The Bat.
You can learn more about The Improv Space, including shows, tickets and registering for classes on their website: www.theimprovspace.com
More episodes soon! Sorry about my sniffles during the podcast! I have a cold, and it's not too great!

Another new episode! Two in one week! Slow this ride down! Quick, let me off before I throw up on you! Too late! I'm so sorry!
Kate Huffman is my guest this week, and oh man does she kick ass. She's been touring her incredible one-woman show I'm Too Fat For This Show around LA, Chicago, Connecticut, Indiana, and even Ireland. IRELAND. What have you ever brought to Ireland besides your love of Guiness and your desire to say "cheers" to everything? That's what I thought.
Kate's show bravely deals with her own personal issues with her eating disorder and OCD that she's lived with for most of her life. It's brave, it's funny, it's sad, it's brilliantly human and realized in a way that most people don't get to see in their lives. I love everything about her and this show and what it represents.
If you live in Indiana and happen to go to IU Kokomo, you're in luck! Kate Huffman will be performing her show there on February 27th.
If you live in LA, she'll be performing a short segment of the show for the LA Women's Theatre Festival on March 31st at 3pm. You can get more info on that here:
http://www.lawtf.org/
Kate also regularly performs with her sketch team Sidekick and Drug Money around the LA area, so be on the lookout for her by following her FB page:

Hi! I'm alive! I hope you are too! If you're not and you're still somehow listening to this, you should go back to Hell where you belong, you undead freak!
Today's guest is Mike Glazer, creator of the variety show Glazed, which you can catch at The Hollywood Improv Lab every month, including this Thursday Febuary 22nd at 9:30pm. Tickets are here (it will sell out!). Mike's an exceptionally lovely dreamboat of a man, so please go out and support him.
In this episode, we talk about stand-up, Second City, having your dreams be shattered, Entourage, moms and letting go to you preconceptions of what you want your life to be. Also my computer crashed during the final edit, so you're getting the RAW, UNCENSORED version of Mike Glazer you've always wanted!

Happy 2018! Happy Wednesday! Happy supermoon! Be sure to listen to today's intro for an important update about the future of the podcast (nothing terrible, I promise!!! SPOILER ALERT: We're doing a live show soon!)
Today's guest is Janet Quinonez, creator of The Drunkalogue Show, a show featuring sober comedians that has been tearing up the LA comedy scene and selling out theaters since its creations a few months ago. Janet and I sit down to talk about her own sobriety, how comedy can be used as a tool for recovery, and how most recovering comedians are actually funnier than normal ones because of the unique truths they draw from.
You can see The Drunkalogue THIS FRIDAY, February 2nd at 7:30pm at The Clubhouse off of Vermont Ave. in Los Angeles. Reserved tickets are sold out but there may be some extras at the door! More info can be found here:

We're not dead! Anyone who told you otherwise is FAKE NEWS! SAD! This episode is VERY REAL and VERY NEW!
Today we have on Julianne Simitz, Adrienne Kisson and Erika Abdelatif, the creators and hosts of Late Night With Jimmy Fallopian Tubes, an all-female late night show written and performed by women. We talk about how they met, writing for late night, and how the format of late night shows like Late Night With Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel Live are slowly starting to evolve into shows hosted by Sarah Silverman (I Love You, America!) and Samantha Bee (Full Frontal).
Jimmy Fallopian Tubes runs on outside submissions, so if you're a woman who wants to write jokes for the show, be sure to follow them on Facebook for notifications on how and where to submit: https://www.facebook.com/JimmyFallopianTubes/ . You can also catch their next show THIS SATURDAY, December 16th at 9pm at the Inner Sanctum at UCB. It's FREE! Use the money you'll save on Christmas presents or flights back home (holy shit I still need to do that).
This is also our last episode for 2017, so see you all after the holidays! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who's come on, and ESPECIALLY THANK YOU to you for listening (ESPECIALLY MY MOM, HELLO DOLORES, SORRY FOR ALL THE BAD WORDS).
PS I was on Mythunderstood this week, talking about Greek myths (which I know nothing about) with Paul Bianchi. You can catch that here: https://www.dragonwagonradio.com/mythunderstood/2017/12/13/pelops-ponies-yall

We're back! It's Friday! Not Wednesday! Why are we fighting about this! Let's be friends again!
Now that Thanksgiving is over and the Thanksgiving tree is all packed away until next year, it's time to get back into some good ol'fashioned podcastin'. Today I have the pleasure of sitting down with Heidi Lux, creator and writer on Ladies of Sketch Night at The Pack Theater in Los Angeles, happening on Wednesday, January 3rd at 10:30pm. We talk about Poland, being a woman in comedy, finding your voice in the writer's room, divorce, women's rights, and why women have a lot more interesting comedy to provide then men give them credit for (they're funnier than you! Deal with it!). More info on Ladies of Sketch Night can be found here here (NOTE: the show isn't listed on the calendar yet but rest assured, it will be there soon!): https://www.packtheater.com/calendar/
Heidi is also a contributor for Reductress, one of my favorite websites. You can read all her stuff here: http://reductress.com/author/heidi-lux/
Thanks for listening and enjoy!

Happy Wednesday! I'm so late in posting this! Things have just been crazy at work. I promise I'll work harder to be the father you deserve! Is mom seeing anyone?
Today's guests are Sunanda Sachatrakul & Amrita Dhaliwal. When they're not slaying the stage at The Second City Hollywood or The Pack, they're writing and producing their own comedy that draws from their heritage together, including the Indian Wedding show. Their next live performance will be December 14th at 7pm and 9pm (two shows!) at The Three Clubs (three clubs!) in Los Angeles, CA ($5 at the door!). You can check out a recent review of the show here: http://www.comedycake.com/archives/49512
You can also follow them on Facebook to get all the info on their upcoming shows, and check out their newest videos: http://facebook.com/indianweddingLA

MONDAYS AM I RIGHT?! Guys that was my impression of Garfield, and I think I killed it. We got a new episode of HYMI on Monday this week because last week got super crazy with all the Halloween spookiness around town. We're also gonna have another episode this week on Wednesday! Two HYMIs for the price of one!Today's guest is Hunter Altman, LA's favorite crash test dummy (he gets injured a lot onstage, which we talk about during the podcast). We talk about concussions, MRIs, Facebook bits, horr movies, writing and being true to yourself in LA and how Tony The Wonder Llama came to be and where it'll head next. Speaking of, Tony The Wonder Llama is on YouTuber now! (I misspelled YouTube and refuse to change it because it made me think of my aunt reading it and made me laugh). You can check it out here!

No intro again this week because a) it's 2am and Sarah is sleeping and b) it's almost Halloween & it's WAY SPOOKIER THIS WAY! Speaking of spooky, we've got Lizze Gordon on this week's episode. She wrote and produced the horror movie #Captured, a movie she admittedly hated making and writing! We talk about the similarities between making bad horror and bad comedy, paying your dues in the production industry, stealing bibles from a church, Yahoo Answers and sex dreams about Molly Shannon. Coming up next week we'll have Hunter Altman (Tony The Wonder Llama, Half-Man, Half-Pee). After that we'll Katy Dolle (The Scramble) and a ton of other super cool people doing super cool projects!
If you're looking for another horror movie to watch for Halloween, #Captured is on Amazon now. You can find it here: http://amzn.to/2z5HHmS
