It sometimes seems hard to believe that professional athletes, like Olympians would ever experience any negative treatment let alone full on abusive treatment, but unfortunately it is a harsh reality for many of them. We are joined by the wonderful Erin Willson, currently a UofT PhD candidate and formerly a professional artistic swimming athlete from the 2012 Canadian Olympic team to discuss the serious issue of psychological abuse in professional sports. Erin is studying abuse in sport and its prevention, an area that she became interested in, particularly emotional abuse as this is what she experienced while on a National team. Erin talks to us about how psychological abuse is normalized and accepted in sports and often flies under the radar as it is not a criminal offence, like sexual or physical abuse. However, it is equally damaging and causes serious trauma and lasting negative effects to many athletes, which is why it needs to be talked about, banned from sports and the abusers need to be held accountable and face harsher consequences. Erin opens our eyes to a dark side of sports we had no idea about. At the top of the show we get dish on some celeb gossip, i.e. Free Britney (duh) and Elon Musks distasteful publicity stunt as well as Lauren shares how she really feels about a federal Covid policy. It's a juicy one!!! Follow Erin Willson @willsonerin Follow us @herspective_podcast

We chatted with seasoned HR professional Shahzia Noorally, who we met when we shared the panel with her during YEG Podfest this year. Shahzia is also a fellow podcaster and hosts The Colour Gap podcast, a show dedicated to sharing stories, experiences and career strategy and advice for women of colour, by women of colour. We wanted to speak to Shahzia to better understand the challenges and differences women of colour face when entering the workforce as well as moving with in it. She shares some of her experiences with us and gives great advice on how to navigate the work force as women of colour as well as for those that do not identify as BIPOC and they can be allies, support and empower all women. We also discuss a major statement that Elon Musk has made and how it ties back to a belief we have shared many times on the show.

When we think about abusive relationships our minds often go straight to physical abuse, but the reality is, that is not always the case. Abuse in relationships comes in all different forms and often isn't even recognized as abuse but instead seen as "normal." We are joined by Author and domestic abuse survivor Nenia Corcoran to discuss recognizing the signs and red flags of abuse ahead of time, how to avoid it and what to do if you become a victim of mental and/or physical abuse in a relationship. Nenia shares her story of how she didn't even realize she was in an abusive relationship for over a decade and what it took to finally realize it and get out. Nenia has since started writing young adult fiction novels to help her work through her past. Although her novels are fiction, she draws a lot from her own experiences and by doing so hopes it will help young people avoid going through what she did. Also, this is the last episode of season 2! Thank you to all our listeners and supporters and we can't wait to continue to bring you more new and amazing guests in season 3. We are kicking it off with a BANG! We are bringing you a special guest from a very popular Netflix show for episode 1... think you can guess who it is? Nora gives us lots of enlightening information, but if you want even more, you should check out her new book, available now on Amazon. Like many, we were consumed by Netflix's fictional show 'Sex Life,' meaning we binged watched it in less than a week, how could you not?! The show was definitely a fun, sexy, guilty pleasure, but also got us thinking about our own REAL lives and past relationships. So much so that we wanted to unpack the show and how we related it to it in our own ways, discuss experiences we have had similar to Billie's (main female character), how we feel about our past lovers/lives, our thoughts on the way the characters mentalities were written and of course if we are team Coop or team Brad. We also give our thoughts on the ending and what we think it meant. Definitely some *spoiler alerts* in this ep so save this one until after you've watched the show. At the top of the show Lauren shares a story on stupidity and wants to know if you can relate Follow us @HERspective_podcast Please remember to rate, review and subscribe!

We welcome Researcher, Educator and soon to be Doctor, Sabrina Razack back to the show to talk about women and Trans-people in sports. Sabrina educates us on the inequalities, racism and general unfair treatment that unfortunately pollutes the professional female sports industry. With the amount of headlines popping up in the media surrounding women's sports right now, it is sometimes easy to get caught up in the wrong narrative, Sabrina shares different perspectives on the industry and how we as a society can help elevate and support pro-female athletes and their sports. We also get into the age old debate of whether men are actually stronger than women, therefore are better athletes, or are we just conditioned to believe they are. This is a jam packed episode that is sure to get you thinking. Lauren and Jess discuss plant casualties, Lauren's latest procedure and whether to watch the Netflix show 'Sex Life' with your partner or alone.
