Ep8: Our First Fireside Chat with Dr. Julia Toman - Assistant Professor and Chief of the FPRS Division at USF
Today's inaugural fireside chat is near and dear to my heart because I have the honor of speaking with the wonderful and inspirational Dr. Julia Toman. Dr. Toman earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, magna cum laude. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Yale University followed by her fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Farrior here at the University of South Florida where she is now Assistant Professor and chief of the Division Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Toman also recently obtained her Master of Public Health, and in the global health realm, maintains a relationship with the ENT department at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine and Incosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban, South Africa which she began during her residency. Dr. Toman’s project supports educational exchange of ENT trainees and research development, and I was fortunate enough to travel to South Africa with her in 2021 to perform research in otolaryngology and get to meet all of the phenomenal surgeons and colleagues in the KwaZulu Natal region. Dr. Toman in someone I aspire to be like when I grow up, as a surgeon, a mentor, a global citizen, and a human being. Join us today as we talk about intentional but organic relationship building, flexibility, and bi-directional collaboration.
