Today more research is being done to fully understand the benefits of sleep and the importance of it for maintaining health. Scientist are discovering that sleep plays a critical role in metabolism, immune function, memory, learning and other vital functions. In this episode, join Sheri and Candice in an interview with Tracy Rupp a PhD. in Experimental Psychology and acupuncturist. Her research is focused on sleep and cognitive performance and resilience. She believes acupuncture offers an opportunity for treating insomnia effectively without the side effects of medications. EPISODE NOTESTracy received her Master’s degree in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH; formerly Tai Sophia) and her Ph.D in Experimental Psychology from Brown University with a background in sleep research. Tracy continues to be active in research.Tracy believes there is an important balance and role for both Eastern and Western medicine in maintaining health. She uses Evidenced Informed Practice to use relevant research findings to guide treatment in conjunction with ancient theory. She believes that Acupuncture fills a void of Western medicine in treating chronic illness, serving as a preventive medicine and fostering self-care, and especially in treating an individual on a mind, body and spirit level. Her interest in research extends to bridging knowledge from many perspectives and treatment modalities and bring that to her patients.
