Back away from the microphone when you need to breathe, swallow, drink, or whatever the heck you’re doing when you record this. Don’t listen to this unless you want an audio biology lesson on swallowing. Good grief.

The pod was great when Jon and Steve hosted. Probably the greatest Hawkeye Podcast off all time. Now it’s mediocre, and Rob Howe especially makes it difficult to listen to by being so politically charged. Not sure how Deace, a guy who does politics for a living, was able to leave that out of the pod but Howe, a sports beat writer, can’t. I have stopped listening.

Rob has caused more damage to this Iowa team than any single reporter to date. His coverage is bias and inconsistent and doesnt wait for all the facts before reporting. His beta male, liberal political views are apparent and should not be allowed to spew his garbage anymore.

Great Podcast when it’s AD (big swallows and all) plus guest cohosts Scott D., John M.and Steve D. Rob Howe needs to be removed for his lack of understanding media members jobs to report facts as they are. He is concerned with clicks and spread his narrative which was spreading miss information to get traction. He caused the program negative attention and caused hall of fame Coach to do unnecessary damage control. I refuse to listen to any podcast he joins or us part of going forward. If Rob Howe is removed from content I’ll update review to *****

I like the content and instant reaction pods but I cannot take the swallowing/mouth noises anymore. They are grating on the ears. I don’t know if the host is drinking during the pod or has an ultra-sensitive microphone but, wow, it ruins and distracts from an otherwise solid podcast.

CriticIf you are so big a critic then seek some real interviews from committee members. Terrible lib bent.

Love instant reaction but I can’t listen to Andrews swallowing noises, are like nails on chalk board it’s unlistenable. Trent or Biz maybe a better choice I like that podcast.

Love listening to people discuss the hawks but for the love of god step back from the microphone or something, the gross mouth noises (swallowing, spit swishing, etc) make it hard to listen to the podcast. This is also the second podcast I’ve listened to where the host decided it’s a good idea to take a drink and force the audience to listen to them swallow, which should be a crime punishable by at least 5 years in a federal prison.

I think Andrew Downs has shown steady and solid improvement. Rob Howe became so politically charged I couldn’t listen. I do not miss him on the pod cast at all. The production could use some simple improvements. AD tends to take deep breathes, constantly is swallowing and/or drinking something through out the podcast. The constant swallowing sounds are incredibly distracting. To the point I am considering leaving the pod all together. Over all I hope it continues to improve.

Andrew Downs needs to learn to stop taking big gulping breaths while speaking/breathing. Complete turn off and have to immediately stop listening.

I’ve been listening to Jon for few years now. His podcasts are always a good listen. Very detailed oriented and gives great insight into the Hawks. Keep up the great work

Jon Miller was great with podcasts, Miller and Deace was interesting and entertaining AF but after Miller retired and Deace left - I tried Howe and downs and couldn’t do it! They aren’t entertaining as a listen and their political beliefs bleed tooo much into Hawkeye coverage! This used to be a go to channel for me - 5* Now it’s a 1* The ONLY reason to listen is Deace’s expert analysis now with Hugen.

Hopefully you can retain Deace him for his analysis on an ongoing basis. Best part of this podcast

Love the show. Enthusiasm is great. But some hosts express views clearly not well thought out, and you’re sitting there thinking to yourself “...what?!?...”

I enjoy many of these guys, including Jon Miller, Steve Deace and even Rob Howe. I like Andrew Downs’ enthusiasm but he really needs to work on his breathing/speaking. He takes big gulping breaths mid-sentence and it’s really hard to listen to. I’ve stoped listening when he’s the main speaker for now.

Andrew Downs I swear is drunk on his instant reaction podcast. And Joe Hugen makes me want to crawl in a hole with that his breakdown of a game. He brings nothing to the table. This is clown college USA podcast. Miller deace please

This used to be my favorite podcast. Since Rob took over it has gone way down hill. I have now unsubscribed and will not listen. Really bummed Jon let Rob take this over. Way too political. I recommend getting your Hawkeye news elsewhere. Go Hawks!

The info and coverage is very good. Solid coverage of the ins-and-outs of Iowa’s major programs and the Big Ten in general. I preferred the Miller & Deace version better but the new direction of the podcast is still very informative and the podcasters are clearly informed. As long as you can put up with the liberal slant by both podcasters at times, you’ll like the newer version of HN. That said, the podcast isn’t dripping with a liberal agenda, but it’s definitely evident. I give it a solid 3 stars.

The podcast took a massive step backwards when Jon Miller retired and Rob Howe took his place. Rob awkwardly fumbles through podcasts and is unable to separate his political opinions from his sports opinions. Even before the social unrest in the Iowa program Rob had issues separating his politics from being a neutral “journalist”on virtually every subject.

If you are looking for your by the book liberal journalist, who neglects balance and good integrity reporting, dismisses all alternate views as uneducated, and lets personal bias seep into every piece of content he supplies....then Rob is the guy for you

For a number of reasons. 1) If you have already answered a mailbag question, just say that and move on. Don’t want to you to tell us you already answered, then proceed to answer it again. 2) There are two sides to every coin, try investigating for the other side just once in awhile. 3) State it once at the beginning whatever tag you are looking for on Twitter or HN, move on. 4) I miss Jon and the level headed commentary. 5) Stop thanking everyone before and after every question 6) Too Slow

Tried to listen to this podcast as a Hawkeye fan, but it wasn’t for me. I come to listen to sports talk not someone’s white guilt, I’ll go to CNN for that stuff. Used to be great with Miller and Deace.

I’m unsubscribing to the podcast. I loved Jon Miller and his takes especially with Steve. But that one Rob Howe is presenting one side of this racial disparity issue is disgusting. He’s viewing it as gully until proven innocent and leaving out important details. I just read his DJK piece where he leaves out the fact that DJK got busted with drugs and let the team down. He made it sound like it was KF’s fault. I couldn’t be more disappointed.

Since the change in hosts, the quality of production, general preachiness of it, and all together reporting has taken a hit. I can’t listen any longer.

Might be a good podcast if we could hear it. Poor audio quality. Sounds like Rob is sitting on the far side of the room talking through an empty paper towel roll. Too many zoom recorded podcasts. Grab a microphone PlEASE!!!

Rob, Thank You for the Hawkeye History podcast with Ed Hinkel. Enjoyed the episode, I saw all of Ed’s home Hawkeye games as a season ticket holder. I was there for his Senior Day 4TD game and have an autographed picture of one of his TD’s in that game. Best receiver in the Ferentz era in my opinion, always made the big catch on 3rd down and knew where the openings were in the defense. Always enjoy the content on The HN Podcasts. Hawk Fan J. Frahm

I love the content of Rob Howe and Colin Cole, but I have never heard such terrible audio. Please invest in some decent mics and try to reduce the background noise. Rob has a tendency to mumble a bit and combined with audio issues, some parts are indecipherable. The insights and analysis are great- just clean up the audio! Thanks

Miller and Deace have educated opinions and a deep understanding of the Iowa athlets the NCAA as a whole. They are both upstanding and refreshing to listen to. Keep ‘em coming.

More Rob Howe on the pods and get rid of the Michigan fan Deace. No one wants to listen to his view on the Hawkeyes.

Fantastic podcast. Entertaining and knowledgeable

Jon comes off as arrogant, Deace a bit preachy, both are total dorks from rural America (gross). Stop talking about the PG issue, we all know this yet you bring it up EVERY episode. Share something the audience doesn’t already know.

I really enjoy Jon’s updates and appreciate his perspective. I am of a similar age and find myself agreeing with a lot of what he says. He does criticize the coaches and team from time to time, but does it without the constant negativity that permeates many of the message boards.

I look forward to every episode. The most recent episode is the best half hour of sports talk I have ever heard. Two guys who by their own admission haven’t always kept this stuff in perspective take on our modern sports culture and in particular the social media/twitter-verse. Anybody who’s ever let the outcome of a stupid game played by complete strangers (myself included)ruin their day should listen and take note.

Jon is a soft, wannabe old school straight man that’s really just a vanilla pitch guy laying up softballs for a far right, out of touch, unemployable Steve deace to preach for 15 minutes plus at a time without correction or interruption on bad, tired stereotypical storylines with more than a little of his bad way too preachy, way too Protestant 1959 white conservatism politics into the conversation. Jon used to have some really decent post game solo pods but those have been largely watered down and are very short, meaningless reminders of how much better his life and his job are than yours.

I’ve been listening for several years and love the podcast. Great blend of humor and sports with a hint of a conservative worldview. Keep it up!!

Don’t always agree with Deace but love it when he’s on and respect his input. Great dynamic to the show.
