For someone as paranoid, intelligent, and ruthlessly suspicious as Lord Voldemort, it seems implausible that someone like Snape could operate a double agent right under his nose for SO MANY years. His absolute trust in Snape (which lasts until the very end, I might add) seems almost impossible to explain. After Voldemort’s first defeat, Snape spent YEARS teaching at Hogwarts and maintaining a close enough relationship with Dumbledore that he eventually became one of his most trusted confidants. Voldemort, meanwhile, wasn’t JUST suspicious by nature.
